Christmas in Okeechobee

Auburndale, Fl (Hi 80  Lo 70)

This is Christmas week and it wasn't as busy as most weeks. We had a friend from our community go into hospice on Monday. I was there all day volunteering and going back and forth to her room and working.  She died early in the morning on Christmas eve. Peggy we'll miss you. Thank you for your smiles and great friendship.

Christmas morning we went to Okeechobee to my sisters. Herm and Doris roasted prime rib. We also had pea salad, sweet potato casserole, deviled eggs, green bean casserole and she made mom's graham cracker pudding, which is a tradition. She can make it better then I can.

They had to taste it before we sat down to eat.

Their dog Carley loves Jim.

Thursday morning we went to the local airport to eat breakfast. We can watch the small airplanes go in and out and it's also a training airport for new pilots. After we ate we headed to Canal Point. It's at the mouth of the Lake Okeechobee  and St. Lucie canal. It's gorgeous. Doris and I went last year but it was pouring rain and didn't get to see much of the lake or area. This time it was sunny. It's like coming up to the ocean.

The rock looks like lava rock. No waves today, but they can be very high and rough.

The dike is pretty high.

Looking at the recreation area but closed to public. It's really pretty around the area.

We had a great time and left about 2:30 for the trip home. We thought we'd get into a lot of traffic but it wasn't bad going down or back home. We had our dinner in Sebring at the Hibachi Grill and home by 5:30.

The canal was active with three little alligators this week.  Two teenagers and a little one. Click on the photo to enlarge.

The next blog will be in a new decade and new year.  Happy New Year to one and all. Thank you so much for reading the blog and see you next year.
The sunset of the week.
