Relaxing Watching the Ships

(Mayport Naval Station, Jacksonville, FL)  Hi 75 Lo 65 -- I put away the little heater in the bedroom. Hopefully we're not going to need it for awhile.

It was cloudy this morning with off and on drizzle, but by noon it was really nice with blue skies and a cool breeze. We didn't do anything at all today except to go out to get some milk. My sister has been working all day making arrangements to get mom from North Carolina to her place in Missouri. She did a fantastic job. She's flying to Raleigh on November 30th to get her. Movers will pack her things that morning and Doris and Mom will board the return flight that afternoon. Great job Sis!

When we got here last night we met our neighbors Nicki and Larry from Buffalo, NY. We love it when we get to stay at a military base. The people are so friendly and outgoing, mainly because we all have something in common, our military service.

We kept our eyes peeled today for ships coming in and out. There wasn't much traffic, but this destroyer came by this afternoon. (Click on the pictures to enlarge)

There's a lot of helicopter traffic around here.

There's some rocks to sit on and watch the action. There's also a lot of fishing from these rocks.

Our view looking from the front of our rig.

What a great relaxing place! As I write this I can hear the bugle call of Retreat in the distance to signal the end of the workday for our U.S. Navy sailors. Life is good!

It will be so great for your Mom to have family close by. I hope she settles down better there.
Happy Trails, Penny.

Nice that things are going so smoothly for your Mom. It's so hard to get old. I'm sure not looking forward to it but I'm going to enjoy every minute that I can. And that means relaxing and enjoying the sunshine and ships (well that one's for you cause we don't have ships here in the desert). At least not those kind.

We can't wait to try out that campground! FOr now we'll have to enjoy it through your eyes!

PS: That's a Ticonderoga Class cruiser, you can tell by the two masts, destroyers only have one. But since you're Air Force, we can excuse you. ;c)

Sherri and I are on the last leg of working come December. Sherri will reach retirement age one year from then. We will be on the road as soon as that day comes. The place that you are at is pretty. I love to see the ships go in and out of the harbors.
