Memorial Day 2010 - BBQ (Troy, MO)

Memorial Day - A day to remember those who gave the supreme sacrifice for our freedom.  There's so much going on in this world today, and our freedom is being threatened from many fronts.  We spent 26 years as an Air Force family, so we know how special today is.  Thank you to all those that serve, or have served in the military.

This weekend also marks the beginning of the summer camping season.  We visited Cuivre River State Park Campground today. We wanted to check out where to dump this next week and the quickest route to get there.  We were surprised to see that everyone had already left.  The working families have to get back home so they can go to work on Tuesday. We'll remember that in the future. On a holiday weekend, arrive after noon on Monday and you'll get a place to park. We talked to a full timer that had just pulled into his site. He started full timing in September and  has been to the west coast and the east coast, and then here to be with his family. He was quite interesting.

Thank you to everyone who commented about our power outage yesterday morning.  The whole house surge protector has saved us a couple times.  We're glad we got it.

Today I went over to my sister's to help her with the dinner for tonight.  We got everything ready then went to Cuivre River and got back just before a storm hit.  We were going to go outside but with the threat of rain we stayed inside.  She's quite the hostess.

This wine bottle has the St. Louis Arch on it and lights up.

The other couple that was with us for dinner was Jim and Judy.  We are camping in their yard.  They have a fifth wheel that is parked in Arkansas, so we could park where they normally park their RV.

They were full timers for six years in their very early years together.  They decided to go back to work to get more insurance money and a bigger savings.  They'll be back on the road in a couple more years.  We got to hear a lot of stories on where they've been and what they did, including some really neat sights and bad roads. We didn't get home till quite late.

It's been another wonderful day.  Thanks Sis for a great dinner and thanks to Jim and Judy for the RV parking site.

Just curious about what type of surge guard you have. Is it the kind that is portable that you can get at CW for around $300? We don't have one but know we need to get one. Karen and AL

Karen and Al, we have a Surge Guard brand whole house surge protector. They make a portable unit that plugs into the outside pedestal, but we had the whole house model installed inside one of our storage areas. They come in 30-amp or 50-amp sizes. Hope this helps. Jim
