What's that Beeping - Move to Jacksonville

Early morning wake up to get hitched and on the way to Jacksonville, Fl. I got all the inside stuff done while Jim worked on the outside. Jim did the guiding and I backed right into the hitch. I think that will be my job, he's better working with the bigfoot system and has a better eye on being level with the kingpin to the hitch. We connected first time, after I finally got the truck going straight back. Good, we got all that accomplished. That class we took was perfect for us.

As we pulled out, Jim came on the ham radio and said, I hear beeping, hold on. Checking the pressure pro he saw that a tire had lost air. He backed back into our spot and aired it up with the compressor. During all the hookups a couple of our neighbors came around to see what was going on. We love that. We showed one of them the pressure pro system and he's planning on getting it since he's already had a couple tires go low on him. He does the thumping method with a small hammer.

We finally pulled out at 10:00 and got to Mayport Naval Station near Jacksonville about 1:30. I got a couple shots of coming into the city.

When we got to the base we fell in love immediately! It's so gorgeous! I'll get a lot of pictures this week while we're here at Pelican Roost RV Park on the Naval Station. We were "guided" into our site by the camp host and Jim had to follow his instructions backing in. He really did well, but would have rather had me talking him into the area on the radio.

The Naval Station is on the Atlantic Ocean and the base has miles of beach front property. Our park is right next to the channel where ships and submarines come in and out. We learned a lot about the base from our next door neighbors. They've been full timers for five years and spent the winter here. They're leaving tomorrow morning. The guy was a chief in the Navy so he helped a lot with what kinds of ships are in the port.

Port entrance for ships.

Our neighbor also helped Jim on some of the hookups and maybe where our leak is located. We're going to be on the tank for awhile and see if the leaking quits. There was no more water going in the bottom on the way here, so it may be a fitting from the hose to the RV.

This is our view from our back window. The clubhouse is behind us

Just to the left of the clubhouse is the port for the Navy ships, it's just barely visible.

Just down the road from us is the Atlantic Ocean. This is just a walkway that leads to the beach.

It was too cold to stay long today, but hopefully we can walk on the beach some this next week.

The inlet from the ocean to the Naval port

and the radar system just off the beach area.

It didn't take long to get set up. We went to the Base Exchange Shopette to get milk and bread, then back to meet our neighbors and sit out with them till it got too chilly. We had a very late dinner and relaxed the rest of the night. We're going to love this RV park. We'll consider this one as a possibility for a longer stay next winter.

This park brings back so many memories of our past military life and living on base. We heard the bugle call Reveille at sundown. The guys in uniforms are so young. Pray for and remember our military as they protect our freedom.

Sounds like you've landed in a lovely spot. Enjoy!

We have a rule at our house that you might want to adopt. Whenever we're escorted to a site, we instruct the escort to give instructions to me. And, I give Paul instructions accordingly. The rule is: Driver takes direction from one person - the co-pilot. We're responsible for the health and safety of our rig. Nobody else is, especially not a park owner or staffer.

Every escort has understood and complied...with a helpful smile.

Safe travels!

Brings back memories,I left on a west-pac detachment from Mayport, flew the helo's down the coast from New Jersey(Lakehurst NAS) had to make three fuel stops. That was in 1967, I remember as the carrier left the channel and was in open ocean Otis Redding was singing "Sittin on the Dock of the Bay" everybody cracked up. Wish I could get into some of those Base campgrounds but alas I got out after my obligation was over. BE Safe and Have fun, Sam & Donna.

It sounds like a great campground. I'm jealous. We would love to stay on a Navy or Air Force Base. We're military "brats" though and can't!
