Day Trip to Lake Placid

Auburndale, FL  (Hi  95  Lo 74)

We have to put dates for fun days on the calendar so we "DO" it. Every time we want to go someplace we talk about it but if it's not on the calendar we usually don't do it. Lake Placid is a little town south of Sebring. It's known for it's murals on buildings. It's about an hour and 45 minutes if traffic allows it with no wrecks. US 27 can be a problem at times. We wanted to wait after the rush hour so started out at 9:30.

We went to the Chamber of Commerce which has a film about the town and the murals. They have brochures of neighboring towns and lots of info about things to see in Florida. We walked the town to see all 46 murals. It wasn't too hot and there was a breeze when we started out. It got hotter as time went on, but two and half hours later we had seen them all.  I have several pictures but not all of them. It's worth going to the town and see how big they are and so detailed.  (Click on the pictures to enlarge).

They have trash cans in all shapes and sizes but uniquely painted.

The school has all kinds of stand-up paintings along the fence.

To show how big the murals are, Jim is standing in front of  couple of them.

Here's a few of the other murals. The magazine you get from the chamber has each picture and in the mural are things to find. One had butterflies, another had a pacifier, etc. We didn't stay long with each picture, but fun to try to find each item.

Pictures on each wall of the two buildings.  This is left side building.
This is the building next door to the right.

There's even a clown SCHOOL here.

The details are outstanding on these murals.

I loved the guy standing in the doorway.

This is my favorite.

The last one is across the road of  US 27, so you need to drive to it. It's along a big building and I couldn't get an angle to get the whole thing. It's detailed so much that the cattle's eyes follow you when you move. It's well worth the trip to see that alone .

There's also pictures of birds on some of the buildings all over town.

It was a great few hours. It was quiet with the snowbirds not here. They say it can get quite crowded during the winter. If you're in central Florida, look up Lake Placid you'll be glad you did.

The rest of the week was a normal week around here. We're trying to stay cool, at least the humidity isn't high yet.

Movie - Concert- Luncheon - Alligators

Auburndale, FL (Hi 88  Lo  65)

I didn't do anything on the weekend. Since it was Mother's day I just crocheted. Jim made a great breakfast and dinner so I didn't even get up to do that. It was wonderful, thanks to my hubby.

Monday I volunteered at Hospice. I'm working on computer for the next few weeks. I also visit when there's a family that needs some relief. I take a basket of goodies around for those that stay with a loved one.

Tuesday three of us went to the movie POM. If you want to see something funny and really good for the "older set", this is the movie to see. Get a few girlfriends and check it out. I think we'll start a cheer leading group at the park. (Click on pictures to enlarge)

Tuesday night Jim and I went to Rocktopia. It's a concert with classical and rock music and they combine them. It's awesome and well worth seeing.

The school kids helped with a couple songs.

The lady with the violin played every song. She's so amazing.

Wednesday the luncheon for the park was at Millers Ale House at Champions Gate. We had 22 attend. It's a once a month luncheon and we always have a good time.

After the luncheon three of us decided to check out a winery. True Blue Winery in Davenport.

We bought some bottles and will go back for lunch sometime, they have some good sounding sandwiches and pizza. They have a gorgeous light fixture.

Besides being busy, there's other things going on this week. We had our bug service done and they noticed under the house the vapor barrier was coming down so they're going to attach it next week. There's just as many repairs to do in a house as there is for an RV.  It was also time for the monthly massage and chiropractor maintenance.

As for the fun by the canal.  We think this is mamma,

This is one of the babies, there's two of them. They're about three feet long. What a fun time watching them. Mary Lou is further down from me and can get great pictures. Thank you Mary Lou.

We're keeping up with hockey playoffs. There for awhile we thought both our favorite teams would be playing each other. The St. Louis Blues and the Carolina Hurricanes. The canes lost, but the Blues are still in it.

Cinco De Mayo - RV Visitors - House Attention

Auburndale, FL (Hi 88  Lo  72)

We're starting the summer rains and storms. It's not everyday yet, but some of the storms can have heavy rain and lots of lightning. It seldom rains during the winter, so we need it.

Saturday was Cinco De Mayo and a great taco lunch at the clubhouse. One hundred people were served.

We're starting our yearly physicals and dentist appointments this week. It's easier to get appointments with the northerners going back home. I have a root canal coming up the end of June and Jim's cleaning was this week. Along with the normal shuffleboard, darts and working at the hospice we stayed busy this week.

Wednesday we had a special visit. Mike and Terri stopped by. They are fulltimers and we try to keep up with them.  They were looking for an RV park  for next winter to stay in Florida. We went out to eat and visited awhile then they had to get back to Georgia to the RV.  They will be here in November so we'll have some fun this winter.

In Florida, maybe other places, we have love bugs. There's two bugs together that fly everywhere very slowly. There's a lot this year and it makes the car windshields and cars a mess. You have to get them off the paint or it ruins it. Mike said they even had to stop along the way to get them off the windshield.

It lasts about a month. They'll be back in November.

We've had some fun watching birds in the back yard. This little blue heron is like a teenager, he/she is on her own looking for food. First time we've seen one this small.

I saw this buzzard fly in and he drug out a gar fish from the canal and ate a lot of it. Then he threw it back in the canal just as three more buzzards came to join him.

They never did get the fish back out and they didn't go down to eat it. Not sure why.

Every few months we have to get the house power washed. It gets plastered with blind mosquitoes and they cling to anything white.

One of the gals in the park made this afghan for Hospice. It's gorgeous.

And while I'm showing crocheting, I finished a quick football keychain that I'm selling at the craft fair in November. I plan on making quite a few.

I'll finish off this week with my summer hair cut.  No mess or fuss.

Surprise Birthday Party - Movie Avengers End Game

Auburndale, FL (Hi 86  Lo 72)

Sunday,  we had a surprise birthday party in the community. Bill Stock was 80 years old and the family stayed with another friend for a few days. He never caught on.  It was great having the whole community keep a secret.

I wish I took more pictures but actually I forgot.

Monday I worked on crocheting and sorting out all my yarn. I just don't think I'll crochet with yarn for quite awhile so I put each color in a tub and found a gal that's glad to have it for making several things.

Tuesday was back to shuffleboard, then worked at hospice for three hours. Every time I go I learn more about the care. If I need help with Jim or he needs help with me, that's the first place we'll go.

Wednesday was the  the morning coffee at the clubhouse, which has less people now that the northerners are going home. I played hand and foot card game in the afternoon and we watched the previous Avengers  Infinity Wars movie on TV so we knew what was going on for the new Avengers the Endgame movie that we went to see on Thursday. Both movies were really good. We were very glad we saw the last one or we would have been lost. It's a long movie and about the time you think it's over, it continued. After the movie we had dinner then I played cards with a few gals.

Friday we had to get groceries. We were running out of everything we use daily.  I went to hospice at 1:00. It was a lot busier then a normal for a  Friday. There were a lot of visitors this time. After I got home I chilled out. Now to get dates and ready for next week.

We had a rabbit in the front yard this morning.

In the back yard we had the resident alligator. This one is the bigger one we see a lot.
