Thrift Stores -TV and Internet - Venting

Shalimar, FL  (Hi 81  Lo 76)

Saturday:  I went with my neighbor, Anne, to the thrift store on base. They say it's a good one, but it was closed. It's only open the first Saturday of the month and this week is the second week. We'll try again at some point. We decided to go downtown and check a couple other places. We found one close and it was awesome. I wish there were more like it, very cheap and nicely laid out. I got a sweater and some craft items for $6.00. Most items were a dollar. I'll be going back for sure. Since it was lunch time by the time we quit shopping, we were both craving crabs so off to Red Lobster. They have crab sale going on so we both got crabs and I added clam chowder and a skewer of shrimp. What a great lunch.

The view was great!  There were a lot of geese sunning and sleeping out the window. It was fun watching them clean and pluck their feathers.

Sunday: Our meditation leader at the village is  Reverend Cathy Howard and she was speaking at a local church, so three other ladies went with me to hear her. It was pouring rain by the time we got there but there were still several people there. We were very glad we went to give her support. I didn't get her picture, but I took this one from the video on Facebook.

I got home in time to go to chimes practice. I went home and did some laundry, have to still do that. I miss Jim, that was his job. I played on the computer and relaxed the rest of the evening.

Monday: I didn't have anything planned but my TV wasn't working since Saturday night so I called maintenance. One of the guys used to work for the network local company and helped figure out what happened. The office cancelled everything on the system, it was supposed to be only wifi, so no TV connection either, The HDMI wasn't working, he thinks it was hit by lightening in Friday's storm. It's common here. He got a splitter so now I have both TV and WIFI by switching the cable. It's the first time in four months with TV. I seldom ever watch, but it's handy. The first thing I watched was "weather". I'm a happy camper.

Tuesday: I didn't do much all morning, mainly because I didn't get up till 10:30. I love staying in bed in the mornings. I seldom sleep much at night. It gets about daylight and I can sleep so much more sound. I had my monthly massage and chiropractor appointment. I seldom have problems with my right hip, but for the past 3 weeks it's bothered me. Between the massage and the chiropractor it's a lot better, not perfect but the movement is a lot better. I played cards and played games on the computer. I also sat outside with a few gals, it was a nice evening.

Wednesday: My neighbor, Anne, and I headed to the base thrift shop, we KNEW it was open this time. They're very organized and had some nice stuff. I didn't see anything I needed or wanted so I didn't get anything. Anne bought a few blouses for $2 each. I did drop off a couple things I don't need so that was a worthwhile trip. We decided to go for lunch to the seafood shack down by the bay. I was there with Ruth and wanted to get the fried green tomatoes with the lobster topping. It was really good and to follow that up with a nice piece of key lime pie. That's lunch of the best kind.  We beat a thunderstorm getting home in time. It wasn't bad, most of the storm went south of us.  I played cards and sat outside with the gals visiting for the rest of the evening.

Thursday: I have a car that relies on a fob to start. I have seen a little icon key show up in the dashboard area and looked it up to see what it was. It's the battery in the fob. It comes on every time I start the car and stays on a few seconds. If you have seen that light on the dashboard get a battery for the fob. It will start but then turn your car off after a few minutes. I got a battery this morning, taking NO chances. It worked, the light didn't come on when I started it at the store. The door opened faster too.

I didn't have anything planned today except indoor shuffle board. Two gals showed up so we played an hour then left. People forget, take naps, or have doctor appointments, but at least one or two come to play. I did play cards in the afternoon.

Friday: It poured rain and the streets in Ft. Walton Beach we're under water. It was hard to get thru and sometimes only one lane. Why am I out?  I lost my credit card. I noticed it this morning and did a check on the charge card site to see when I used it last. It was when Ruth was with me and that meant a restaurant. I called when they opened and they had it in a box of cards. It seems it happens a lot. I can't believe it's my first time doing that and glad they had it. I bought a fish taco while I was there for lunch. I made it back in time to eat and get to the chimes concert at Hawthorn House here in the village. We play for them once a month.

We had a birthday celebration for Rae, one of the gals in chimes with cake and punch.

I only had 30 minutes then it was time to go to the happy hour for all the villages at the common area. There weren't very many there. I stayed about an hour and went back to the apartment.

I ordered a printer/scanner and it came today. My old one totally died. I can't get anything out of it and the paper keeps jamming. I gave up and took advantage of the Prime discount.

I was on the North Carolina zoom meeting by 6:00. It's great having friends from the past to talk to and be with once a week, I finished my order of six crochet cardinals, so now I'll start on to the Christmas items for the craft sale they have in October.

Venting:  I don't vent very often but this deal really upsets me. A DENTIST here in town was vomiting and really sick. He continued working on people without gloves or mask. WHAT??? The gals that worked for him went to the boss and he said he's washing his hands it's ok, and scoffed it off. Now we know how people get sick. No matter who you are, if you're sick STAY HOME!!!  There are senior citizens in this area which makes it even more serious.
