(Mayport Naval Station, FL) Hi 78 Lo 66 -- This is our favorite park and there's so many pictures we take that it's hard to put just a few in the blog. We're at the Mayport Naval Station in Mayport, FL near Jacksonville. We're right at the mouth of the St. John's River, which leads from the Atlantic Ocean, past our RV park, and on to the port of Jacksonville. I wish I could use a drone to fly over the river to see all around our park, but it's not a good idea to fly a drone on a military base. :) It's beautiful here. We can sit by the RV and watch the river or go less than half a mile to the ocean and sit on the beach. I sat outside close to five hours today. At the beach we watched two shrimp boats pulling in their nets. Later in the afternoon I sat outside the RV watching dolphins playing in the water, people fishing, birds fishing (they seemed to have better luck catching fish), and big cargo ships come and go. (Click on the photos to enlarge them.)
Jim enjoying the outdoors.
Here's a view of our RV from one of the benches that line the river's edge.
Looking out over the river.
The ocean was very calm today. In the background is the rock jetty at the entrance to the St. John's River.
The Navy PT (physical training) route runs right by the RV park, and almost every day we see groups of sailors on their daily runs, singing their cadences. Very entertaining!
This gate encloses the entrance to the Navy ship harbor. When we see them open the gate we know a Navy ship will be coming or going soon.
Sunset with the ships in the background.
See you in a few days.
