Traveling South

(Huntington Beach State Park, SC) Hi 72 Lo 37 -- Today started out very chilly, but warmed up the further we went south.

Judy and Jim were headed to the same destination as us today, so they followed us to Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet, SC. A group of RV Dreamers (we call ourselves the Carolina Clan) have our annual informal get together this week. It was our first time caravaning with someone else, and it was a nice experience. We (and by "we" I mean my Jim) missed a turn in Wilmington, NC. With the help of Google Maps on his smart phone he got us back on the right route with very little delay. We made a comfort stop at a gas station, and it was impressive seeing our two rigs side by side. (By the way, we saw gasoline as cheap as $2.95 a gallon in SC.)

We made it to the Huntington Beach State Park Campground a little after 3:00. When when we got to our assigned site there was a small travel trailer sitting in it. We went to the office and they said it's one of several rental units that are parked throughout the park by a local RV dealer. They leave them in the park to rent out during the week, and they're supposed to come tow them away by noon on Sunday. We left the rig parked at the office and went back to the campground and talked to some of our friends that were already here. After awhile we went back to the office to get a status report, and we were told it would be about an hour more. But when we went back to the site the trailer was gone. Slight lack of communication there.

Backing into the site was a challenge, with small ditches on both sides and not much room in the street to make the turn. After getting a neighbor to move his truck, and a few back and forth moves, Jim finally got it parked.

This is the third year of the Carolina Clan get together (our second time attending). Several who were here last year couldn't make it this year, but we still have a great group. I'll get plenty of names and pictures as the week goes on.

After we got set up we went to K and W Cafeteria with Jim and Judy. Outside the cafeteria we saw these guys walking down the road.

The two Jims commented that they must be military geese, marching in a column.

When we got back to the park we met up with a few friends before retiring for the night. Jim will watch the World Series game while I get in the chat room.

This is a view from the our site.

Jim found a neat website that has photos of sites for many public and private campgrounds and RV parks around the country. It's how we were able to pick a site here at Huntington Beach that was open for our satellite dish. Check it out at www.campsitephotos.com/

I never did learn to back into a space properly, and am really in awe of anyone who can. Great job, Jim!
