Ghost Town Museum – Visiting With Friends

(AF Academy, Colorado Springs, CO)  Hi 92 Lo 69 -- Yesterday we went to the Ghost Town Wild West Museum. It's a collection of original buildings from ghost towns around Colorado that were moved to an indoor facility and stocked with furnishings from the 1800's to add authenticity. It was informative and entertaining for the modest cost ($11 total for the both of us). (Click on photos to make them larger.)

Here's the interior of the General Store.

The carpenter shop.

A peek inside the jail.

A couple of views of the print shop for a local newspaper of the day.

Barber Shop

The Apothecary, where you can have a potion mixed for what ails you. Like a modern day pharmacy.

Here's Jim bellied up to the bar in the saloon.

There was a nice collection of old buggies and stage coaches.

This is an original stage coach from 1868.

One portion of the building showed a house from the 1800's, with accurate depictions of the different rooms, such as this dining room.

A child's toy-filled bedroom.

Part of life in the 1800's was a visit by the town doctor.

It was an entertaining look at what life was like over a hundred years ago.

Today we had a lunch date with Ed and Marilyn at Panino’s Italian Restaurant in Colorado Springs. When we got there we were pleasantly surprised to see that Bob and Janet were joining us.

We had a great meal and good conversation. As always when RV'ers get together, we talked about where we've been and where we're going. After a couple of hours we followed Ed to Mountaindale RV Park, where he and Marilyn have spent part of the summer. The trip was about a half hour south of Colorado Springs, and the views were great as we followed the mountain range.

Ed and Marilyn showed us around the park, which is very attractive with nice landscaping and all kinds of amenities.

We sat outside Ed and Marilyn's beautiful Mobile Suites fifth wheel and talked. Bob and Janet had to run some errands after lunch, but they soon returned and joined us. There was some off and on light rain that forced us inside their screened porch.

They had a bear roaming through the campground a few days ago, and a female deer with two fawns show up occasionally in the morning and evening. But we didn't see any wildlife today.

Ginger and Jesse are also here as workcampers. Jesse joined us for most of the afternoon, but we had to wait for Ginger to get off work at 5:30 before she came over.

We met these folks through RV-Dreams.com at the rallies in 2008 an 2009. It was great seeing them again.  Thank you for a great afternoon.

I’m doing a little better with the altitude, but not great if we go up any higher then 7,500 feet or so.  Jim is adapting much better than me, but he still gets a little short-winded when he puts forth any effort. My ear is better now that the sinus infection is gone. We'll be fine now until we leave next Monday. We don't have any firm plans for the rest of the week, so we'll take it a day at a time.

That museum looks like a fun place. I had not seen that when I was in that area. As far as the altitude is concerned, after my first 2-3 days in the area (bad headache) I still had a low-grade headache most of the time I was there.
