Happy Memorial Day

(Remington, IN) Hi 91 Lo 71 – Happy Memorial Day to all of you who served, are serving, or lost a loved one in the service.

We weren't in a real hurry this morning. We had plenty of time to drive 225 miles. We're headed to Joliet, IL but decided not to make the full trip in one day. Jim found a Passport America Campground in Remington, IN, which is right on the way on I-65. The traffic wasn’t real bad, and we even took I-65 through downtown Indianapolis instead of the bypass (I-465). I noticed the wind was picking up. Jim didn’t feel it, but the closer we got to Remington the worse it got. Jim finally said he could feel it but it wasn’t bad. I had a hard time keeping in my lane.

We passed a huge wind farm that has almost a thousand windmills. Some were moving and some were still. I remember seeing them the last time we came through the area, but now there are a lot more. They’re near W. Lafayette, IN. If you want to know more, here’s a website about them.

We’re at Caboose Lake Campground, which is right next to I-65. Our site is back behind the lake so we can't hear any traffic noise. It’s very nice. There’s no trees, has gravel roads, pull through sites and 50-amp service. There's sewer hookups too, but we didn't hook up our hose for just the one night. In fact we left the rig hitched to the truck, so it'll be a quick departure tomorrow. Once we got set up we ran both air conditioners to get cooled down faster. Having a second (bedroom) air conditioner really makes a difference on hot and humid days.

As Jim was pulling into our site I noticed a tiny little bird was in the middle of the
drive.

It was so little it didn’t have it’s eyes open. I moved it to the grass for safety. I'm keeping an eye on it, but so far the mother hasn't come to it. I want to help, but there's not much else I can do. Just let mother nature take its course I guess.

It’s so windy there’s whitecaps on the lake.

The lake has lots of water stuff to play on.

Life jackets, bait and fishing equipment can be bought at the office.

The owners said they were totally packed in during the weekend. All but a few left earlier today.

We didn't bother setting up the satellite dish. We can only pull in two local channels on our antenna (CBS and PBS), so we'll spend the evening reading (Jim), in the chat room (me), and watching recorded TV shows.

If you can find the nest, maybe you can put the baby bird back in it? It is a fallacy that it's Mom won't go near it if a human has touched it.
I hope it makes it, Happy Trails, Penny, TX

Looks like a nice place and you avoided a lot of holiday traffic... Hope the baby bird gets back to its mommy!

Thanks for stopping by little Indiana. :) That would be the perfect place for you to plan more of your travels--there's so much to see and do and EAT in small Indiana towns!
