Maxwell's Grove Customer Appreciation Day

(Avon Park, FL) Hi 85 Lo 59 -- I stayed up last night to finish the book Left Behind so we could take it back to the library today. I thought I'd sleep till at least 10:00 this morning but woke up at 9:00. I really like not having an alarm clock or the feeling of having to get up at a certain time.

We had a few errands to do today. While we were out we stopped at Maxwell's Grove in Avon Park. They were having a customer appreciation day, with grilled sandwiches, and a small country & western band for entertainment. I had a BBQ sandwich and Jim had a burger AND a hot dog. Afterwards I had some of their wonderful orange ice cream. We also bought another half gallon of orange juice. We're going to miss their orange juice when we leave here for the summer. There were a lot of people there, and it was nice of them to have a special day like that.

Jim (center of the photo) is enjoying his burger.

When we dropped off the library books we took the time to locate a geocache across the street from the library. It was near a train car that's next to a small museum. It was a pretty easy find.

When we got back to the RV Jim watched NC State win their March Madness basketball game while I went to the pool. There were a lot of women doing the same thing as me, getting away while their husbands watched basketball on TV.  Everyone seemed to be talking about leaving for the summer. Another topic was how many park residents are snowbirds. There's so many who go back north for the summer that they close the clubhouse and have nothing open except the pool. The shuffleboard courts aren't used because the equipment stays locked up in the clubhouse. I'm glad we don't stay in the summer, but there's several that do. I found this website about how many snowbirds come to Florida during the winter.

I think the orange blossoms are finally getting to me. They smell wonderful, but I'm sneezing and my eyes are watering from being outside a lot today. I'll be outside again almost all day tomorrow. There's a lot of St Patrick's Day activities that I'll go to while Jim goes to Lakeland to see his St. Louis Cardinals play the Detroit Tigers.

We had another evening of cards after dinner. We're getting hooked on card nights!

how nice of maxwells....I miss their juice and ice cream...I can't believe the almost close down the resort in the summer..what about the perm residents....and such a nice place too...are they still closing the pool at suppertime? The pollen here is really getting to me itchy eyes runny nose..but the hot weather more than makes up for it...

When my oldest brother first retired, and after he and his wife had purchased a place on Pine Island (think Fort Myers) they thought one summer they'd just stay in Florida. Seemed like a good idea.
Said it was just too bloody hot. Just trying to get from the air conditioned house to the air conditioned mall to the air conditioned....wherever.
So they never did that again.
They now have a fifth wheel and are on the road somewhere, no doubt heading north with the rest of the birds.
