Exploring Sebring

(Avon Park, FL) Hi 80 Lo 47 -- It was a great morning, and it was starting to really warm up by the time I got up at 8:30. I had a doctor appointment in Sebring, so we didn't linger around long this morning. My doctor appointment was at 10:30, but when we got there the waiting room was almost full. People had been waiting for an hour. Remember when I mentioned that I don't like waiting? Waiting in a doctor's office is even worse. Jim said we should find me a local doctor since we'll be in Florida during the winter months. I really like him, he has a nice "bedside manner." I hurt my arm in bowling a month ago and it's still not right, it hurts when I do certain things. He said it's more than likely a pulled shoulder muscle. I need to use wet heat and a muscle relaxer and go back in two weeks. If it doesn't get better he wants to do an MRI. We'll see.

Sebring is eight miles south of us. The town is laid out in a big circle around Lake Jackson. We've driven around the lake but never really explored downtown. Jim saw online there's a restaurant downtown called Dee's Place. Well, we just HAD to try it out for lunch! Their food is great. Jim always judges a restaurant by how good their meatloaf is. He tried the open-face meatloaf sandwich, and he pronounced it excellent. I had a cod sandwich, and it also was excellent. The waitresses were wearing t-shirts that had a picture of a licence plate on the back that said CU@DS. I asked our waitress if one was available for sale, and she said they normally don't sell them. When I told her my name is Dee, she went to the back room and found me one. I'll take a picture when I wear it one of these days.

The town is celebrating their 100th anniversary this year.

This is the firehouse, built in 1927.

There's a circle in town with a small park in the middle of it, and many shops around it.

This mural is on the side of a building.

This beautiful building is sitting empty. There's several empty stores and buildings in town.

Some of the shops around the circle. Several of the buildings are registered as historical landmarks.

We went to Walmart on the way home to get some groceries, and while we were there we bought a Kindle Fire. It's the new small tablet that came out recently to compete with the iPad.

Now we have a new toy to play with. We have 15 days to decide to keep it or return it, so Jim will give it a good workout. I tried it out briefly, but I'm not sure if I'd use it since I do everything but the blog and chatting on my Android smart phone. I'll have Jim do a review of it after he learns more about it.

From one Dee to another, enjoy that Kindle Fire. What is your full name? Mine is daryl, which in North America is mainly a male name. In Africa it is very unisex. I am an Amazon associate. Links on my blog. Proceeds go to Breast Cancer
