Relaxing Day - Watching Storms - Charleston AFB

(Naval Weapons Station, Charleston, SC) Hi 85 Lo 70 - We went to bed after 1am so we slept in this morning. There was nothing planned so no hurry to get up.

The tornadoes and storms coming through the southeast were heading our way today. It was very windy all day, but coming from the west it was at the front of the RV so we didn't rock much. We kept our eye on the radar while I read blogs and chatted online with friends, and Jim read his Kindle.

Jim estimated the storms were at least a couple hours away so we left for for Charleston AFB, which is only a few miles away, to see their famcamp. The sun was still shining when we left. The base is real nice. We found the famcamp. The campground loop is closed because they're making improvements and installing more sewer and water hookups. Although there are concrete pads, the park is very rustic and almost totally enclosed with trees. We're glad we decided to stay here at the Naval station.

We struck up a conversation with a very nice lady we saw outside her fifth wheel. She and her husband are both retired from the Air Force, and have been full time since last October. Another friend met and made on the road!

We drove around the base and found the BX (base exchange). It's small but adequate. On the way home we stopped at a local BBQ restaurant that Jim got a Groupon for. It was great food! For those who don't know about Groupon, it's a website that offers daily coupon (Groupon) specials by email for the city you're in. It's in just about every city of any size. We set our notifications for whatever city we happen to be in, or know we're headed to, and look for food specials. Usually we pay $7.00 for $15.00 worth of food, which is great for lunch. And it's usually for a local place, rather than the chain places. They also offer Groupons for spas, fitness centers, tours, and all kinds of things. We love it. If you're interested you can check it out here.

We got back to the RV and checked the radar. Thankfully all the storms went north of us. I found on Facebook that a tornado hit Raleigh, NC. I called mom right away to be sure she was ok. Everything was ok with her, but we're still getting reports of a lot of damage in the Raleigh area.   We watched the NASCAR Nationwide race and some recorded TV shows.  It was a laid back day and I'm glad. I'm sore from all the climbing and squeezing through hatches of the submarine and ship yesterday.

Glad you're okay. I heard on the news this morning there were killer tornadoes in North Carolina yesterday. Stay safe!
