The History Place - Peaceful

(Newport, NC) – Jim went to do the laundry first thing this morning.  We were suppose to get rain later in the day, so he wanted to get it done.  (We never did get rain.)  While Jim was gone I watched a recorded TV show and then went down to the water to see what was going on.  A huge shrimp boat passed by.  It was just so peaceful and pretty that I didn't even think to take a picture of it.   As a society, we find water to be so relaxing.  It’s just something about being beside the water or near it that makes us feel comfortable, that’s why so many people find solace on the waters edge.

When Jim got back we ate lunch then headed to his mom’s.  She took us to the Carteret County History Museum (called The History Place) in downtown Morehead City.  It opened in 2001.  It’s small but has a lot of neat stuff from around this area. (Click on photos to enlarge.)

Here’s some interesting stuff.  The older you are the more you’ll know what the items are.

This is carved out of one piece of wood.  I remember my grandfather doing this when I was real young.

We left and went home and on the way we saw a gorgeous sunset. We just had to go down to the pier for a few pictures.  It doesn't get any better then this.

You have some really good pictures today. I especially love the one of the sunset on the water silhouetting the man in the boat. Great job.

And you said it didn't have much "IT" factor when you arrived!

What a great photo of the sunset with the man in the boat - definitely a blog worthy photo. Isn't it great to just be able to relax and enjoy those special moments of life.

Yup, I sew on one of those machines every time I sew (my grandmothers) and the spinning wheel is a larger *walking wheel* for cottons, but I do spin on a smaller version for wool.

What a nice historical trip down memory lane!
