(Goshen, IN) – Another cool morning and up early to get to a seminar about the Escapees CARE Program. When Escapees members have to leave the road due to medical reasons they can set up their RV at the Escapees CARE park, where it’s run like a nursing home as long as there's a caregiver. They have their meals provided, their RV’s cleaned for them, and minor medical needs taken care of. It’s one of the best reasons to be an Escapee.
Later this morning we both went to a featured speaker. The director of the Menno-Hof Amish Historical Center spoke about the history and culture of the Amish and Mennonites.
We relaxed and had lunch at the home. Jim stayed at home while I went to another couple of seminars. First up in the afternoon was It’s Time to Escape, which provided an overall review of the benefits offered by the Escapees. I learned more about the Escapees’ RV parks and what each can provide. Rather then go into details, you can read all about it on the www.escapees.com website.
We walked over to the race track and climbed to the top of the bleachers.
We watched a horse and sulkey practicing. They have harness racing at the track every week.
Here are some views of the fairgrounds from the top of the bleachers.
I also went to a talk given by Joe and Kay Peterson, the founders of Escapees. They did a comical talk on some of the things that’s happened to them since the beginning in 1978. From there I went shopping at the “Market”. They had several vendors that sell all kinds of things for RV’ers. I bought a collapsible container carrier. which will be perfect for carrying food and drinks to potlucks.
We met up with our Class of 2007 friends at 4:30 for our happy hour at the main building ready to win some door prizes, but that didn’t happen. There’s only one more night. This skit today was a funny production number about beer. The singer is made up as a glass of beer and the head gear on the backup singers are beers.
We went out to eat dinner with Ken and Cindy. Afterwards they joined us at our place to watch the movie "Into the Wild." Neither of them had seen it, and if you’re an RV’er it’s a good one to see.
We found this little fellow in the window of a nearby RV watching everybody passing by. He was so cute.
The sunset was gorgeous tonight. A great time at the rally. One more day to go.
