Rescuing Son's Truck from Pound - Movie- Weather Radio (Scott AFB, IL)

HAPPY CANADA DAY TO OUR COUNTRY TO THE NORTH!

Jim got up early (to us) to go with our son Frank to St. Louis to "bail out" his truck from the city impound area.  He works in downtown St. Louis, where daily parking is a nightmare, unless you're willing to pay outrageous monthly parking fees.  He usually parks on the street, but the city has different rules during Cardinals games.  Yesterday was a day game, and his truck got towed.  So Dad had to take him to pay the fees and get his truck back.  After stopping for breakfast together, Jim got home mid-morning.  I worked downtown back when we were stationed here, but luckily I worked for a bank and they paid half the fees for parking.

It was the kids choice to see a movie today.  They chose "The Last Airbender," a movie based on a past TV show called Path of a Hero.  I thought it was ok, but it's geared to the kids and that's what counts.  It's our last outing together with them alone before we leave on Monday.

We finally bought our weather radio.  Jim did some research, and with the help of our readers we chose the Midland WR300.   We wanted:  selection of specific location (S.A.M.E.), ability to choose which alerts to receive, battery backup, and AM/FM radio.  This seems to have it all.  We liked several of the others that we looked at, but we found a good price on this one on Amazon.com.  We're hoping it works well for the locations we'll be traveling.

Jim was hungry for steak tonight, so he grilled steak for him and chicken breast for me, and we ate outside.  I love the times we get the grill out and eat outside.  It's such beautiful weather.

We have new neighbors that are visiting for a couple of nights.  Dave and Dee are from Virginia Beach.  They're here with their two kids to attend a friend's Navy retirement ceremony. They pulled their fifth wheel all the way from Virginia Beach to Mount Vernon, IL in one day.  That's a FULL DAY of driving!  They gave us some nice compliments about our rig, so we invited them over to see it.  We had a good talk about what we're doing and what they're planning.   They're not giving up the house for a few years but would like to do some traveling.  They had some questions about full time living.  It was really nice to meet them.  Good luck in your travels, Dave and Dee!

Have I mentioned lately that I love this lifestyle?

Glad you got your radio...we don't have the AM/FM part, but we love the weather alert. However, I hope it doesn't have to go off too often.

And...amen to this lifestyle. Looking forward to seeing you guys this fall and exchanging a few stories.
