A Week with Sister - Okeechobee- Clewiston - Vero Beach - Coca Beach Part One

Okeechobee, FL  (Hi 70  Lo  55)

Sunday: We went to Okeechobee to my sister's, Doris and Herm. The boats are in the canal. The water has finally got high enough to get them docked. (Click on the pictures to enlarge)

I learned (since I don't fish) that they can post fishing poles in everyone of the holders at one time and fish from all of them at the same time. The Gar fish can tangle up the lines, but they don't seem to have much trouble with that many poles at one time.
Jim loves my sisters dog Carley and she loves him back.
We went to Clewiston for lunch which is an hour drive from her place. The terrain in Florida is different from North to South and the more south we got the more sugar cane we saw. There were a few fires going which burn off the last crop and they prepare for another crop.

On our way to Clewiston they're burning fields for new crops.
Sugar Cane field.
It's motorcycle week in Daytona this week and there's tons of bikes on the roads in  Florida.
The Tiki Bar where we ate.
Lots of people, but all wore masks till they got to the table.

Jim left about 3:00 to go back home and I stayed with sister.

Monday: Doris and I stayed around Okeechobee to visit people in the community.  We went to lunch at Tin Fish, our go to place for meals in Okeechobee.
Tuesday: We headed to Vero Beach in the morning. It's about an hours drive. We ate lunch at Riverside Cafe.
We sat outside by the docks where people come in for meals.

There were pelicans to watch and other birds hoping someone would drop some food.
This is the front of the building. The restaurant is in the back and you have to know where it is without looking for it or asking where it is.
The purpose going to Vero was to go to McKee Botanical Gardens. It was something more then we expected and worth going if you're looking for something to do in that area. There's lots of history about the gardens. It's amazing and we had a wonderful time for a couple hours. It's like a maze but no problems IF you can read a map.

There's several Lego items all over the gardens. I have a couple here but there's many more. There's also "find Waldro", but the gal at the office said they're very hard to find and we didn't know what we were looking for.

There's all kinds of vines and palm trees. Vines from trees go everywhere.

This is built from a guy that used vines from the Northeast. It will only last two years in the Florida terrain. (If no hurricanes)  Click here for details.  Doris is standing in an archway.
There's several rest stations to relax. It would be nice in the hot summers to have a place to rest.
This is the creation from the Waldo family.

I'm standing among the vine creation.

The exit is pretty We didn't see too many flowers, mostly plants and things are labeled.
We decided to go to Cocoa Beach to the hotel that Doris and Herm went to watch a rocket launch about 10 miles away in Cape Canaveral.  There was a launch on Tuesday night and we wanted to see it. This view is from our room on second floor.

The launches can be seen from the middle of this picture just to the right of the buildings.
There's Disney ship staying out in the ocean but only turns around, it never moved. There's several ships in "storage" out at sea, not enough room for all of them in the ports.
People were all spread apart. Only families were close together.

We  picked up dinner at a Tiki Bar and took it back to the hotel sitting on the roof top watching the ocean waves. We had chicken wings which were really good.
We had a huge king bed so plenty of room. So here's a small  bit of info. When we signed in for the room, sis asked if they were still doing the cheese and wine get together. They were not but the owner gave us a bottle of wine. We also bought a tiny 6 pack of wine from the store across the street. Needless to say, we were feeling quite good sitting on the top deck of the hotel till we found out the launch was cancelled.
There's two parrots sitting on perch as you come into the hotel. They didn't talk to us, but sis says they did last time.
Our room was second from the right second story.
We had a gate key to go to the ocean.
The viewing deck was the top of second story to the left. It was so neat.
We didn't get a lot of sleep but left around 9am the next morning for more fun and travel. See Part Two of the blog.

Looks like you had a wonderful day. Thanks for sharing the photos.

We are heading out of Florida to Georgia on Monday. Will be back next year for two months and if there is a possibility, we will look you guys up for a visit.

Friend says Colt's Pig Stand BBQ in Daytona is the best BBQ compared to Kansas City. Might have to check that out, but with bike week it might be busy.

We were at Custer South Dakota the week after Sturges and now we are at St. Augustine off the interstate. I used to ride but never paid much attention to the noise from the tail pipes until now. There was a stretch of US Highway in Northeast Alabama we stayed at for part of the virus lock-down. The bikes on the road about ruined our stay there as so many used the highway. Pipes three times as load as a car.
