Trip to North Carolina for Mother's Day - Update on Knee

(Auburndale, FL) Hi  88  Lo 69 -- The weather was good for our trip to Morehead City, NC to visit Jim's mom on Mother's Day. We spent time with family and friends all weekend. We ate the whole time, and when I say ate, this is southern cooking and it's great. (I gained the five pounds I lost while in the hospital).  I made some six inch cinnamon rolls that were really good. Jim's sister Sharon and her boyfriend Jimmie are  fantastic cooks, but neither of them like to bake. I like baking but not cooking, so we made a good team. (Click on pictures to enlarge.)

Jim, Jim's sisters Sharon and Robin, Sharon's boyfriend,  Jimmie, Jim's brother Johnny, and his mom Alberta. We're eating some great pizza from Gino's East in Chicago that our son Rick had shipped to us.

One of the reasons we all gathered  was for family pictures.

Mother's day was great. Alberta enjoyed having her kids around and we took her to the famous Sanitary Seafood Restaurant on the Morehead City waterfront. It brought back memories for Jim. He worked there two summers when he was a teenager. The views from our table were great, watching the boats come and go. They can dock at the restaurant for meals.

Alberta's father and her three brothers were shrimpers. I crocheted a small boat with little shrimp in it. I even named it Alpha Grey, which was her mother's name and the name of her father's boat many years ago. She loved it!

After the big meal we sat back and rested.

We left on Monday morning to get back to Florida. The trip was long with lots of truck traffic on I-95. But we didn't hit any slowdowns. We stayed the night in Hardeeville, SC and got home by 3:00pm on Tuesday. It didn't take long to get un-packed and relaxing in our recliners

I've been having a lot of pain in my knee. I had knee replacement surgery January 18 so I know it's not healed yet. But I can't stand up or sit down or get a good nights sleep without shooting pain. The doctor took another x-ray and saw a calcium deposit on the tendon next to the knee cap. That's where the pain was coming from. He showed me the xray from 2014, 2015 and now. The area was just getting bigger. He suggested a cortisone shot. In moments the pain was gone and I can almost walk normal. It's holding and I hope there won't be anymore trouble.  To read about calcium deposits on joints click here.

We checked on our RV and truck at Ridge Quality Motors. They've had a lot of lookers and some low ball offers. This is the slowest time of the year for selling an RV, but we're in no real hurry.

I'm back to playing shuffle board. The past couple years I haven't played in Avon Park, They played too early in the morning for my taste. Here they start at 10, which is great. There were 12 of us playing on Friday. They only play on Tuesdays and Fridays. The group is great and I did pretty well.

The next blog will be next Friday .

You brought back some memories. I spent a couple of years working in that area.
