(Avon Park, FL) Hi 69 Lo 57 -- On Tuesday Dee had cataract surgery on her left eye. Everything went well, except she coughed during the surgery. Yep, you read that right... she coughed while a doctor was about to cut her eyeball with a sharp scalpel! Fortunately no harm was done. While I waited for her in the waiting room I watched as patient after patient was called to the cataract conveyor belt. The doctor performed 36 surgeries that one day!
She's now two days into her recovery and stumbling around like a drunk sailor. :) Her repaired eye isn't real clear yet, and her right eye is so bad that she can barely see of it. (Kind of like blind in one eye and can't see out of the other.) And it doesn't help that the left lens was removed from her glasses, which throws off her equilibrium. She's doing fine except for being a little impatient. She wants to see, and she wants to see now! :) She has commented about how bright and colorful everything is in her left eye, kind of like going from black and white to technicolor. The other eye will be done next Tuesday. She wants me to thank everyone who has offered kind words of encouragement.

Glad to hear how Dee is doing. Hopefully her vision clears up soon.

I had my left eye operated on 11 days ago. They didn't take the lens out of my glasses so I can see distance in my left eye and close out of my right with my glasses. The glasses are starting to make me dizzy. I go back on Tuesday to see about my glasses. They haven't given me date for the right eye yet. It's amazing how fast they can run people through there.
Glad to hear that everything went well in the first surgery and hope that continues into the next one. I am sure she will be happy when it is all over with.

The biggest thing I first noticed was the ability to see the color blue again.
I am having cataract surgery when we get home in the spring.
It may seem like forever while you're going through it, but it isn't long and your vision is so much better. Yes, it's an assembly line thing, but they really do a great job these days.

It's good that everything went well with Dee's eye surgery. Good thing she wasn't harmed when she coughed during the process. The recovery is truly the hardest part in any kind of surgery, but I believe she will overcome it soon enough. In any way, thanks for sharing that, Jim! I hope to hear more about her progress. Glad that Dee made it through surgery okay, I bet her coughing mid operation must have been a first for the doctors! I read somewhere that the brain takes a little while, but automatically adjusts the focus of your vision after having a cataracts operation, something I'm sure is happening in Dee's eyes right now. I wish her all the best!
