(Redding, CA) Hi 106 Lo 70 -- Redding RV Park is a Passport America (P.A.) and Good Sam park. They offer the P.A. rate (50% off) for only one day, then 10% off for the remaining days. BUT, for they add a $5.00 charge for electricity for the one day of the P.A. discount. They always seem to think of clever ways to make up for the Passport America discount, either by limiting the number of days you can use it, or adding other charges. Here, they did both. Here's some photos of the park. (Click on photos to enlarge.)
The office building. There is a laundry room, pool ($1 a day to use, another dumb extra charge), and a bathhouse.
Our site. Notice the tree up against our slide. We had to break off some small branches to get in and out of the door.
View out the back window.
View out the side window. At least there’s some shade.
The pool area.
The park has all interior roads paved and nice paved pull thru sites.
We can see mountains all around us. Redding is in a big valley. (That's why it's so hot!) We're told you can see Mt. Shasta from here, but we haven't seen it yet due to the clouds and haze.
Today we took a drive to downtown Redding. It's a small city of less than 100,000 people. There wasn't much there to tell about, except for a beautiful pedestrian bridge called the Sundial Bridge.
The bridge was built in 2004, is more than 700 feet long, and stretches across the Sacramento River and connects to the Turtle Bay Exploration Park.
,
The floor of the bridge is made of glass panels, and it's very cool looking (but they were really hot. Be careful if you walk your dog across).
The view downriver is quite nice.
The sundial at the north end is over 200 feet high.
Here are some facts about the bridge.
A view of the bridge from the north end.
The water in the Sacramento River is crystal clear. Salmon are common in this part of the country, and this is spawning season. However, we didn’t see any. These geese were having a great time.
The sundial is accurate for one day of the year, the summer solstice (June 21).
You can see the shadow of the sundial in this photo. There are time markers on the white concrete set apart representing 15-minute intervals. You can see them in this photo, the small brown discs.
Here's a close up of one of them.
The photos above were taken around 1:18, and sure enough the shadow was between the 1:15 and 1:30 markers. Pretty accurate being as the solstice was only a couple of weeks ago.
There was a small museum nearby, but we didn’t go through it. The $16 entry fee ($12 for seniors) just didn't seem like a good value to us.
Even though it was a hot 107 degrees we took some time to look for a geocache near the entrance to the park. We looked and looked but couldn't find it. :(
We stopped at Walmart for some groceries, then went back to the RV. We’ll be moving to Oregon in the morning.
See you in two days.

I'll never admit to having trimmed tree branches too close to our MH. Just pretend the shears in my side compartment aren't there... ;c)
I sure hope you get a good view of Mt. Shasta. It's the most beautiful, in my opinion.
Sundial Bridge is really cool;o))
We really liked the Sundial Bridge, it was really cool! Of course we were there in May last year :)
I believe your ducks are Canadian Geese. They look like the ones we have here living in town.
Was wondering how the road/drive from Carson City to Redding was?
Diane and Rich, the drive wasn't bad. The road through Lassen Forest had some ups and downs, but nothing difficult. Overall a pretty pleasant drive. Jim
