We’re on the Move for the Summer

(Lake City, FL) Hi 86 Lo 47 -- Yesterday we were hitched up and on the road by our usual departure time of 10am. All systems are operating well on the rig, and we had perfect weather for the 215-mile trip north to Lake City, FL.

The trip took a little less than five hours, which included a stop at a service plaza on the Florida Turnpike for lunch. The traffic was heavy on I-75, with many RV’s heading north. This interesting combination caught our eye.

A car, speedboat, and two dirt bikes. This family definitely likes their toys! (I'd love to see them launch that boat from the top of the trailer.)

We are set up at Oak & Pines RV Campground. It's a small park and the sites are very close together. But it has full hookups so it meets our needs for our two-night stay, especially since we got the Passport America discount. (However, we were charged $5 per day for our second vehicle. That's the first time we've ever been charged for the car.) Jim got the satellite dish set up ok. He's getting the hang of the new dish and tripod.

Here are some views of the park.

There are a few small rental cabins.

There are lots of trees, but none over our site, which is ok.

We were required to park the truck at overflow parking, about 100 feet behind our site. No more than one vehicle is allowed at each site.

There's a couple ponds.

A nice place to sit under the trees.

They’ve had a lot of rain the past few days so so there's some standing water and muddy areas, which means lots of mosquitoes. We were attacked during our walk around the park.

There's not much to do in this area, so today we went to Lake City to see the movie Noah.

There's been a lot of controversy about the movie not being faithful to the Bible story of Noah. Truthfully, if they're going to make a 2-hour movie about a story that covers about a page and a half in the Bible, they have to take some liberties. It was very entertaining and well-made, and we really enjoyed it. But we went into it expecting a very good adventure movie based loosely on a Bible story. Frankly, we're glad for any Bible-based movie and hope to see more of them made.

We're back on the road headed west tomorrow. We'll see you in two days.

I don't watch movies and will never see this one, but I hear all the hype about it. All I can say is that if the movie truly depicts dinosaurs boarding the ark, then it's too much of a stretch.

You mean you had to disconnect the tow vehicle or the toad if you have a motor-home? I would not stay at a park where I had to go to all the trouble of disconnecting and the re-connect the next morning. On my trips, my toad is never disconnected until I get to my final destination.

Dizzy-Dick, you wouldn't have to disconnect your toad from your motorhome. The extra charge is for a 2nd car or truck separate from the RV. We tow with a diesel dually and Dee follows behind in the car.

That parks looks mighty crowded! Might be good for an overnight. Why not dinosaurs on the ark? I have no problem with that since He did create the world and everything in it.
