Keesler AFB

(Gulfport, MS) Hi 81 Lo 55 -- We had a couple rain showers overnight, but no wind or storms. The sun came out by the time I got up around 9:00. It was a good day to go to Keesler AFB to do some shopping. Jim was stationed at Keesler for technical training following basic training back in 1970. The base is less than a half mile from U.S. 90, which runs along the Gulf coast. (Click on the pictures to enlarge.)

The beach is very wide with lots of room for walking.

There was a motorhome sitting in one of the beach parking areas.

There are some nice homes along the coast.

There are still some buildings that have been empty since Hurricane Katrina

Lots of tall condos and apartment buildings

We also checked out the Keesler Famcamp. It’s well away from the main part of the base and harder to get to than where we are at Gulfport. It’s a nice area though. It’s a couple miles off U.S. 90.

We did some shopping at the base exchange and commissary, had some lunch in the food court, then came back to RV to watch the NASCAR race that was rained out yesterday. We stayed in the rest of the evening and got prepared for our move to Louisiana tomorrow morning.

See you in two days.
