(Maumee Bay State Park, Oregon, OH) Hi 84 Lo 67 -- We got hitched up left Elkhart, IN by 10:15. It was cloudy, but no rain, which made for an easy 150-mile trip. There was very little traffic, and only one construction area to slow us down.
We pulled in to Maumee Bay State Park in Oregon, OH, just east of Toledo. We normally don’t stay at state parks because most of them have more trees than we like. This one has small trees and bushes that separate the sites, but otherwise it's pretty open. We stopped on the way into the park to fill our fresh water tank. We have only 30-amp electric at our site, no water or sewer. (Click on photos to enlarge them.)

To the right. The park is pretty empty now, but I have a feeling it will fill up for the weekend.
There's a small pond behind us to the left.
The view out our back window.
There's deer all over the place here. We've seen about five so far.
After we got set up we waited for new friends to show up. I met Kris in the RV-Dreams chatroom. She and her husband live a few miles away in Millbury, OH. They arrived around 4:30 and we sat and talked for awhile. They're going full time in a couple years, or sooner if Danny can figure out how to get an early retirement from Ford Motor Co. where he works. Kris is already retired and ready to go.
Danny and Kris
We went to dinner at a Toledo landmark, Tony Packo's Grill. The place was made popular by being mentioned several times by Klinger in the TV series M.A.S.H.
Jim, Dee, Kris, and Danny enjoying a great dinner.
Packo's is famous for their Hungarian hot dogs. And they're also famous for all the hot dog buns on the walls, signed by just about every celebrity you can think of. There are hundreds of them covering the walls.
After a leisurely two-hour dinner, with good food and better conversation, we came back to the RV and talked for another hour. They were full of questions about the full time lifestyle. After spending time with them we're convinced they'll love being full timers. They finally had to leave so Danny could get to bed. He works a very early shift in the morning. It was great meeting Kris and Danny, and we wish them all the best in the transition to full time RV'ing. We hope to see them again in the future.
Tomorrow we'll explore the park. It's right on Lake Erie, so we plan to check out the beach.

That's my kind of park...beautiful!
As soon as I saw your pictures I asked Joe to come sit beside me and see if he could tell which park you were at. Phooey. He guessed it right away. We stayed there and loved it. Especially all the deer.
Did you have the apple strudel with ice cream for dessert? It's the best!!
Maumee Bay is a nice park, but the beach isn't much . . .
