Dave and Tina - Das Dutchman Essenhaus

(Elkhart, IN) Hi 84 Lo 57 -- We had a great day with my nephew Dave and his wife Tina. We went to the Das Dutchman Essenhaus Restaurant in Goshen for lunch. It's one of those "must go to" places in this area. Their specialty is Amish home style dining. We got there about 12:30 and it wasn't as crowded as we thought it would be. We had the buffet, which included a well-stocked salad bar and food bar. The food was excellent and when we were about to leave the waiter suggested strawberry pie for desssert, which we got to take home with us. He didn't mention it was an extra cost, so another charge was put on the bill. Pretty slick salesmanship! We'll enjoy it later tonight.

Dave is my nephew. He and Jim have been best friends since their teenage years. He introduced Jim to me in 1968 on a blind date. He was living in Florida at the time, but had come up to Indiana on vacation to visit his family. He told me about Jim and how I had to meet him. So I went to Florida later that year to meet him, and the rest, as they say, is history. I moved to Florida, we got married two years later, and we've been together 43 years. We still thank Dave for getting us together.

Dave's daughter Cindy  lives in town so after lunch we visited her for a couple hours. We then went back to the RV and visited some more before they left for their home in Niles, Michigan, which is about 20 miles away. We'll see them again on Sunday.

After they left we did some computer work, and I started another afghan crochet project. The temperature is going up along with the humidity, so we're keeping cool inside with the air conditioner on. Summer is here!

We love that restaurant. However, we've never done the buffet because we always get the chicken and never get beyond that.
