Back in The Land of Lincoln

(Marion, IL) Hi 63 Lo 52, with rain off and on all day. We went to breakfast at a nearby local restaurant, then hitched up in the drizzle and got on the road by 10:30am. Besides the rain we had construction on I-24 off and on all the way to Metropolis, IL, where we picked up I-57 for a short jog to Marion, IL. It was single lane and very slow going in several long stretches. I wonder where they get all those orange barrels they use for construction zones. We passed them in seven or eight mile stretches.

Along the way I saw this water tower. Metropolis the home of Superman. (Click on photos to enlarge them.)

I loved the trees along this rock wall.

Around 1:45 we pulled into Marion Campground and RV Park.

The last few nights we had to deal with traffic noise from the interstate highway next to us. Now we have trains that go through right beside us, literally. And they really blast their horn.

Jim found out from the office that it's an engine that pulls individual cars from one track to another, and they don't run after about 5pm. That's good!

Our site, a nice long pull through. Jim says we've had so many pull through sites lately that he may have forgotten how to back the rig. :)

Dee, we passed by that area today too as we traveled back home (Normal, IL) from seeing our son in Nashville over the weekend. Road construction is really bad this time of year. We plan to travel down to Rend Lake some time this summer for a few days. If you get a chance check out the North and South Sandusky and North and South Marcum areas. Most are only electric but they do have a few full hook up sites. I figure the solitude, scenery and bike trail will make up for the full hook ups if not available. We stayed at the Benton KOA for a few days last summer. Big mistake. Right next to I-57. Didn't realize the Rend Lake campgrounds were so great. Newbies still learning. Travel safe. Curt

Naw, Jim won't forget how to back up. It's like falling off a bicycle, once you do it, you never forget. ;c)

We got a nice pull through for this week. Been awhile since we had one! That place looks like a nice campground..except for the train!
