The Land of Miniature Golf and Water Parks

(Myrtle Beach, SC) 61 Lo 54 – A great day for traveling, it was cloudy and I-95 was amazingly traffic-free. It was about a three hour trip to Myrtle Beach.

We arrived at Lakewood Camping Resort around 1:30. The park is huge with 1,200 sites, including many right on the ocean beach. We parked in a pull through and stayed hitched up again just like last night.

We have to be at Camper Connection for our slide repair inspection tomorrow at 9:00. They’re just a mile from us.

I took plenty of pictures as we drove around the park. It’s a great place if you want to spend time on the beach. But today was cloudy, dreary, with the temp in the 50's, so not a good day for the beach. We got the winter rate, but it's still way above our budget. We're only here because of our repair appointment, and for only one night. (Click on pictures to enlarge.)

The road in front of us goes to the ocean about two blocks away.

There are also many "sticks and bricks" homes to buy and rent.

And lots of park models.

I like this one if you have a big group.

There’s a couple stores on site, and also this big laundromat.

We drove around the park, then made a "dry run" to the repair place we're going to in the morning. It's a good thing we did! We drove to the facility about five miles away only to be told that they're relocating, and we need to go to their new location, which is less than a mile from our park. That would have been an aggravating waste of time if we found that out tomorrow. After getting that straightened out, we stopped for some dinner at Ryan's. It's been a long time since we've eaten at Ryan's. It's like a Golden Corral except the food is better.

We came back, turned on the fireplace, and settled down in the evening. Tomorrow they're going to analyze what needs to be done to the slide, then order the parts. We'll have them finish the job in about three weeks when we'll be back in this area. Hopefully it won't take long and we'll be on our way to Beaufort, NC to spend a couple of weeks with our family.

Looks like a really nice place, although maybe a bit busy.
I suppose it's to be expected of SC.
The rates are probably whatever the market will bear, but at least an overnight stay includes a "family of five". There are some places where the rate seems low, until you show up with one more person, and then it's extra. Not to mention places that charge for pets? I've never understood that one.
