Jacaranda - Super Bowl Party

(Avon Park, FL) Hi 82 Lo 61 -- We normally get a big egg breakfast on Sundays, but today we wanted to be hungry for lunch at the Grand Buffet in the Jacaranda Hotel in Avon park. the Hotel Jacaranda opened in 1926 and has been in continuous operation since then. It's a beautiful building, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

They've kept the overall look of the interior the same as it was in the 1920's. Here are two views of the lobby.

We had reservations, and it's a good thing because the dining room was packed.

There was fried and roasted chicken, sliced ham, and fish, with several different sides. Along with a soup and salad bar, and desserts. And it was all superb!

We were stuffed when we left!

We went back home and turned on the air conditioner to beat the heat, and humidity. At 5:00 we went to Jon and Kathleen's for a Super Bowl party. There were five couples there in all, and Jon set up his big screen TV in his enclosed patio room.

The plan was for the gals to retire to another room to play games, but we all got caught up in watching the game so we could see the commercials. We left at the end of the third quarter so we could get the blog done. Thanks Jon and Kathleen for inviting us, we really enjoyed it.

That really looks like a beautiful place to have lunch. Hope you watched the last part of the game - went down to the last five seconds.

I agree with Jo-Joe - the older buildings have so much more dignity, as well as quality of workmanship. I love it when the old look is retained.
