Sports - Racing and Hockey

(Wauchula, FL) Hi 78 Lo 46  --  Have you ever got up in the morning and just knew it would be a really good day?  That's how today started out.  I just knew it was going to be good.

I wanted to do a lot of reading today, I'm behind on some of the blogs and magazines. I made it to noon then had to get out.  It was so warm and no wind, just a light breeze.  I walked around the park and it looked like everyone was out either with neighbors or under their own awnings enjoying the warmth.

There's one thing everyone has in common, and it's the most talked about topic everywhere you go.  The weather.  You can meet more people by just asking or saying something about the weather to break the ice. Here, it's even more so because most of the people are from up somewhere north.  The conversation goes like, "Hi, how about this weather?" "Where are you from?" "How much snow is up that way?"  No matter who you talk to, that's a good ice breaker (sorry for the pun).  My sister called from Missouri and said they're expecting a big winter storm tomorrow. Our son also wrote about it on Facebook. We'll have to watch and see how much more snow they get up that way.

I worked on the puzzle at the clubhouse for a bit. There wasn't a lot done, so whoever else works on it hasn't been there much. I got most of it done, everything but the sky, which is all the same color and harder to do. I also played shuffleboard, which was a lot of fun today. The good weather gets everyone at the courts in a good mood. I was partnered with a gal that plays just for fun and is not serious about it. What a difference that makes. We had laughs and a good time as we tried to get those pucks to go in the right direction.

Jim was transfixed with watching the coverage of the Rolex 24-Hour Race at Daytona. The TV coverage was from 3 to 9pm yesterday, and then from 9am to the end at 3:30pm today, and he had it on for most of that time. He's such a race fan, and it's been three months since there's been any racing. He did other things, but he kept pretty close tabs on the standings. When the race ended it was almost time for the NHL All-Star game. The game this year was held in our home city of Raleigh, NC. We were season ticket holders for the Carolina Hurricanes for a few years and it was so neat to see our home arena and all the Canes fans on TV. We both wish we were there.

It was just one of those days of fun and fresh air that makes living in Florida so great.  Tomorrow we're going to a luncheon in Lakeland to meet with 15 RV'ing couples.  I can't wait to get there. We'll tell you all about it tomorrow.

Next winter I will be in Florida instead of sitting here waiting for the next snowfall. I can't wait. Glad you are having such a good time.

With all the crazy weather this year we all need tomake the most of those beautiful days. Rain here today but a lot nicer than our hometown in the midwest bracing for another winter storm. Not missing all that snow. :)

I sure was thinking about y'all this past week end while Raleigh hosted the NHL All-Stars. The party started downtown on Friday afternoon with a free concert in the amphitheater next to the Convention Center. Saturday, Fayetteville St was closed off for a FanFest along with more free music throughout the day. It all went off without a hitch and we had great weather too.
