Moved East, Nice Park

(Melbourne, FL) - We took our time getting ready for the move this morning because it was only a three hour trip.  It was nice temperature-wise today, but really humid.  But we're not complaining, all we need to do is look at the ice and snow in other parts of the country to make us thankful for being here.

The trip was smooth and uneventful.  We lived in the Melbourne area when we were stationed at Patrick AFB back in the 70's.  We’re here to spend Thanksgiving with Jim’s cousin, but we also plan to drive around the area to see how much it's changed.

On the way we saw a blimp heading north, and a brush fire off in the distance.  There's been so little rain and it's very dry.  I hope this isn't an omen of more fires to come.  (Click pictures to make them larger)

We're staying at Wickham Park.  Starting tomorrow night they're having a Christmas festival of lights here in the park, so there will be lots of traffic driving through the park.  Thankfully our campground is a little distance from the route of all the traffic. We were warned to be in the park before 6pm to avoid the traffic and crowds.

Our site.  We asked for a site with few trees, and the ranger was surprised at that.  He said most people want lots of trees.

The bath house on our loop

There’s several ponds around, this one is down at the end of our road.

There’s a huge RV  overflow area for boondocking.  Also swimming lakes, but I haven’t seen them yet.  We’ll check everything out before we leave Saturday.

After we got set up we noticed the end of a kitchen trash bag sticking out from under the baseboard to the left of the cabinet that houses the trash can.  When Jim pulled it out, he discovered it was the end of a roll of bags.  He got inside the cabinet the best he could and found out the roll of trash bags slipped behind a partial wall behind the cabinet.  He had to dismantle the wall and reach behind a lot of plumbing hoses to retrieve the roll.  Lesson learned:  don't store loose things in the trash can cabinet.

We had a great dinner of shrimp stir fry and relaxed the rest of the evening.  We have free electricity so the air conditioner is running to keep us nice and cool.  I love moving.  I could move once a week, and Jim likes to stay in one place a little longer.  So we compromised and will try to move around about once a month.

It’s a great day in paradise.

Once every two weeks would be about right. Unless it was a perfect place with a perfect price!

It does sound like paradise. I think the once a month move sounds perfect. That's what I hope to do when I full-time.

in southern fl., when i used to visit my dad, there were sugar cane fields; they burned the leftover stalks as it would not fertilize the land.i think we use to travel along US-27. it runs north & south in south central fl. mostly a truck route at that time.dom
