I checked the tide table and found out the tide was in at 11:15. Here's the comparison on the beach between low and high tide.
You can even see over the rocks today, but yesterday that wasn't possible. It was neat seeing a cargo ship go by just on the other side of the rocks.
Coming into port is the USS Roosevelt. We watched her leave a few days ago. The water was almost up to the dunes.
We found a jellyfish that was washed up on the beach. We checked to see if it was alive but it wasn't. There were several people picking up shells and crabs this morning. The whole beach was completely different from yesterday.
We spotted a strange looking ship in port this morning. It looks like no other Navy ship we've seen so far. Here's some information about it from Wikipedia:
USS Independence (LCS-2), the class prototype for the Independence-class littoral combat ship, will be the sixth ship of the United States Navy to be named for the concept of independence. It is the design produced by the General Dynamics consortium for the Navy's littoral combat ship program, and competes with the Lockheed Martin-designed USS Freedom.
It is intended as a small assault transport that can take on various capabilities with the installation of mission modules. The ship is a trimaran design that can make more than 40 knots (74 km/h; 46 mph), and was delivered to the Navy at the end of 2009.
We drove over to the other side of the port to get a closer view. Notice the "trimaran" design on the view of the stern.
Another interesting ship that's in port is this German Navy frigate. It's the blue one on the left.
After checking out all the ships, we went to Hanna Park. It's about a half mile outside the base gate. We got there in good time, the line to get in was very long when we left. We're just not ready for woodsy RV parks yet. This one is huge with very narrow roads and smaller spaces. It has a lot of trees, but very nice if you like woods. There's lots of bicycle and hiking paths. We went Geocaching which there's several in the park. We didn't find the ones we looked for, it was just too much in the woods and I'm afraid of snakes and ticks, but the paths are great.
Lake side area
Several empty sites, but I'm sure they filled up as the day went on.
We got my car from the dealer. The electronic analysis couldn't determine a definite reason for the check engine light, so they reset it at no charge. Hopefully it won't come back on. I sat in the sun for awhile, but the winds picked up and it got a little chilly. There was less action down by the channel so I did some computer work. We did another dinner on the grill and relaxed, talking with neighbors in the evening.
