Bourbon Tour -- Frankfort, KY

After I posted last night I got more pictures of the area. Elkhorn Creek winds around the park.

Some more views of the park along the creek.

Bath house, which is really nice.
Play area

Swimming pool, which will be open around Memorial Day.
Entrance Sign

Clubhouse.  There's a small rally here this week.

It was raining most of the morning but we decided to go to the Buffalo Trace Bourbon Distillery.   We learned a lot about how bourbon is made.

This is the cabinet with a display of different bourbons made by Buffalo Trace:

The special high priced Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey has a horse on the top of the bottles.  Each of eight horses represents a position in the Kentucky Derby, from the start all the way to the finish. All eight horses are displayed on this board.

The bottles are filled, topped and labeled by hand by about 12 employees.

The oldest building holds 1900 barrels of bourbon for up to 23 years before bottling.

This is the world's smallest bonded warehouse.  It holds one barrel, the 6 millionth barrel, which was placed here in 2008.

Another older building where barrels age. Most of these buildings date from the late 1800's.

Then the tasting.
It was a really neat tour. Jim would like to tour the Kentucky Bourbon Trail someday, which includes eight distilleries.  After the tour we stopped for some groceries, gassed up the truck with diesel, and headed back home.  We got everything ready for a visitor for dinner. Bill, aka Shadow in the RV-Dreams chat room,  came for a visit. He lives nearby and we met him a couple of years ago when we came thru this area. Jim grilled some burgers and we enjoyed some good conversation.

Thanks Bill for coming by and checking out our home on wheels.  It was great seeing you again, and we'll meet again the next time we come through.

Thank you to all the new readers of the blog.  It's great hearing from you.  Tomorrow we're on the last leg of our trip to see the grandkids.

So the distillery must be in a wet county. You can't taste the product in the dry counties!

Glad you got to meet up with Bill again. We visited the Maker's Mark distillery when we were in Kentucky a few years ago. It's really interesting to see those. Rod even got to dip his very own bottle in the red was.

Now that is a tour worth taking. Years ago I would have tasted several barrels but now days I just drink fruit punch.

Oh what a fun tour to take! Steveio would enjoy that for sure. Nice to see a pic of Bill, after all the chatting we have all done in RVDreams. Glad you got in a nice visit. I expect brownies when he visits us. LOL
