Trip 6 Albuquerque - part 1

Albuquerque, NM. (HI 72    Lo  54)

Wednesday  I was up and out the door by 2.30am. Ruth's brother took us to the airport. We had to wait 45 minutes before anyone showed up to do any work. The baggage was an easy process but the scanning didn't go as well. We were both pulled out for double scanning. I had a mask in my pocket and for some reason there was something on top of my head. We finally was let go and headed to the gate.

The flight from St. Louis was great.

It was a bit bumpy but I slept a bit. The sun was coming up about the time we got to Denver.

Both flights were on time and we found out both planes had come from other airports. Both flights were full and they don't take seat reservations. We had to separate and find seats in middle of people. I got the emergency exit seat on the  first flight which gave me more leg room. It was a great welcome to Albuquerque at the airport.

We had to take a shuttle from Albuquerque Airport to our rental car. No problem. We got a mid size Nissan and had to ask where the start button was, everything else was like my SUV. Always a learning curve with cars.

It rained most of the day and all events  were canceled on the balloon field. We got our motel room, went grocery shopping, had lunch at a Mexican restaurant and we stayed at motel the rest of night.

Thursday it was a nice morning. We saw balloons from motel so decided to check out more of what was going on. You need tickets to get in the field  but we stopped at the road before the field just to watch. We'll be there most of the day tomorrow. They were doing a flag  competition where a flag is on the field and the balloon needs to be a mile out come back and drop a flag on the x. It's amazing to watch so many balloons just hanging in the air. We found one that landed in the street and a couple that were in people's back yards. One just above us on the road.

It's so different being here then to see pictures. We wanted to park in a big lot to watch balloons but they are filming for TV show Cleaning Lady.

Balloons just staying in one spot. All over the area, it was such a beautiful sight.

Ruth has cousins here so we went visiting in the afternoon. They told us a lot about the events and 50 years ago there were 13 balloons in a grocery store parking lot. Now there's 650 and 400 were turned away. We learned so much about the area where to go and see more around the area.

We were here in our rv travels but there's so much more we're going to do.

Here's the link to the rest of the photos.
