More Movies - More Beach Time

(Mayport Naval Station, FL)  Hi 78 Lo 70 -- We've been doing nothing but sitting on the beach and watching the river traffic, and going to a couple more movies.

The winds finally died down, and we had to clean a lot of caked up salt off our windows so we could see the ship traffic on the river. That's the downside to being on the coast. We have had no rain so far and it's been very warm temps. We're enjoying the views. (Click on the pictures to enlarge them.)

Right in front of us is the buoy that the Naval station uses to secure the end of the long gate into the ship harbor when it's open. The little boat had some sailors who were undergoing training in how to operate the gate. They were at it for a couple of hours. How hard can it be to detach a cable from a hook? :)

This is low tide at the beach. You can walk way out along the jetty.

There always seems to be heavy surf in this area.

There is an air show at Jacksonville Beach this weekend. Some small WWII era planes were practicing overhead the last couple of days.

The Blue Angels will also be performing this weekend. They did a practice show today, and we saw them flying around but didn't get any photos of them.

Yesterday we watched a Navy tug tow the Cruiser USS Gettysburgh, on its way to Norfolk Navy Base, VA for some major upgrade work.

This sailor was running on the rocks as if it was flat land. Never lost a step on the jagged rocks.

Wednesday we went to see Maze Runner: Scorch Trials. It was the second movie in the Maze Runner series, and it was very good and action-filled.

Today we went to see Bridge of Spies, the new Tom Hanks movie directed by Steven Spielberg. It's a terrific cold war spy story, based on true events. It's one of the best movies of the year. Jim especially loved it as he's a big spy movie buff.

After the movie we went to our favorite seafood place, Safe Harbor Seafood in Mayport, for an early dinner. It's primarily a fresh seafood market, but they also serve excellent fried seafood meals. I had the shrimp basket, and Jim had the shrimp and oyster combo basket. We both also had a cup of clam chowder, which was as good as we've ever had. We're both stuffed!

Monday we roll out for our final move of our summer traveling season. Next time we post we'll be in our winter site at Adelaide Shores RV Resort in Avon Park. See you then!

Haven't seen the first 'Maze Runner' so may have to Netflix it. Want to see 'Bridge of Spies'. Safe travels to your winter home.
