Travel Day to Dayton, OH

(Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH)  Hi 78 Lo 63 -- We've been taking it easy and just relaxing at Pike Lake Campground in Warsaw, IN. On Monday evening the park manager stopped by to advise us we were under a severe weather advisory and where to go if conditions got unsafe. Some pretty bad storms passed by but fortunately they missed us. We didn't even get any rain. :-)

I took a drive to Clunette where I was raised and visited Evelyn, who used to babysit me when I was a kid. I try to see her whenever I'm in town. She's now 90 years old and lives alone on her small farm. She takes care of several cattle, some pigs, and a lamb. She stays busy all the time and she said if she sits for more than a few hours everything locks up. She's an amazing woman!

Today we hitched up and headed to Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. The 200-mile trip was very smooth with no problems, other than a couple of slowdowns in construction zones. We had site 13 reserved and when we arrived at the base famcamp we backed into the site marked 13. Luckily the camp host was roaming around and caught us before un-hitching to inform us we were in the overflow area. He guided us to the proper site 13 in the nice pull-through section. We were glad we didn't get set up only to find out later we were in the wrong section.

We're here for a week. We were here during our first summer of travel in 2010. At that time we went to the must-see place here on base, The Museum of the U.S. Air Force. We won't be going there this time, but if you'd like to read what we wrote about our visit at that time you can check it out here. We don't plan to do very much while here, but one thing we are looking forward to is going to Eldora Speedway Friday night to see the World of Outlaws Sprint Car races. Who knows what else we might get into during the next week. Stay tuned.

See you in a few days.

We camped at the Dayton KOA back in May and visited the Air force Museum. I'm retired Navy but really enjoyed the museum. If your ever in the Pensacola area check out the Naval Air Museum. We also visited Carillon Park. If you haven't been you might want to check it out.

Newcomers Meeting - Zoom - Emerald Coast Band

Shalimar, FL  (Hi 64  Lo 40)   This week went so slow. When you're retired the days get all mixed up and some go so slow you skip a day...
