RV-Dreams Reunion Rally: Days 2 and 3

(Marion, NC) Hi 81 Lo 67 -- It’s been busy here at the RV-Dreams Reunion Rally. Sunday was race day for Jim, when he watches the Monaco Grand Prix, Indy 500 and Charlotte 600. The racing started at 7:30am and didn't end until almost 11pm. It's one of his favorite days of the year, so I left him alone while I went with a group to a "Brunch and Jam" at the Silver Fork Winery about 15 miles away. It's one of several various group activities planned throughout the week. We met at the pavilion and carpooled to the winery. (Click on the pictures to enlarge them.)

The scenery was gorgeous with the Smoky Mountains in the distance beyond the vineyards.

Along with wine or mimosas, we had a brunch of salad, quiche, tuna crescent, and a ham rollup, with french toast style dessert. Delicious!

It was served buffet style.

Most of their wines are of the dry variety, which I don't prefer, so I skipped the tasting.

We took a moment to get a photo of our group.

The "jam" was performed by a bluegrass group, and they were very good.

We headed back to the rally park and visited the rest of the afternoon, then made our way over to the pavilion for an ice cream social followed by the bonfire.

Monday we had a catered breakfast of bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, eggs, hash brown casserole, orange juice and coffee. It was all wonderful!

It was rally shirt day, and we all wore the rally shirts from previous rallies we attended. We had group photos taken of each year's rally group. We went to the 2008 and the 2010 rallies.

2008, the first RV-Dreams Rally, which was held in Branson, MO.
2008

The 2010 rally was held in Longs, SC.

A photo was taken of the entire group, but I don't have a copy of it yet. I'll post it in a later blog.

Monday was senior game day, with all kinds of games and activities. There was something for everyone, including a different kind of scavenger hunt where you get answers to questions you have to ask other RV'ers. Questions like have you been to Alaska, do you have a welder machine in your RV, and things like that. It was a clever way to get you to meet more people.

There were some crazy games like the hula hoop pass, where you have to pass a hula hoop around a circle of people holding hands without breaking the chain.

There were other relay races, like carrying a gold ball on a spoon, and carrying a frisbee between your knees (and having to pass them to your race partner without dropping them). Everyone had a great time and there were plenty of laughs. It was a great afternoon.

There were also plenty of lawn games, line cornhole, the washer game, and lawn bowling.

Red and Pam brought out their drone for a demo.

Speaking of drones, Jim gave me an early birthday present. I'm now the owner of my very own drone. I've been wanting one for quite a while.

We took it out for a tryout, and all I can say at this point is it does fly. It shot straight up and kept going, and going, and going. I finally cut the power and it came all the way down and thankfully landed in the grass. No damage. I tried it again, and same thing... up, up, and away. This time it landed in the grass but bounced onto the road and broke a propeller. That was the end of that session. The controls are very sensitive and I have to really practice. I replaced the propeller (it came with extras) and we'll give it another try today. What fun!

Monday evening was our potluck dinner. There were no sign ups, everyone was told to just bring something. It all worked out very well as there was a huge variety of foods.

In honor of Memorial Day, after dinner Linda and Howard had a nice presentation to honor the fallen heroes of our past wars. They also had a very moving tribute to the RV-Dreams family members we've lost since the beginning of the group. It was very emotional and well done.

Monday night's bonfire.

The fires keep getting bigger.

See you in a couple days.

Wow!! I know you like to get the scoop on what's going on at Adalaide Shores, but now you don't even need to move out of your chair. 😇

Dang, you got a drone!! Who are you planning on spying on? And BlurGrass music, my favorite. You had a great time and got a great gift. Practice and practice and you may master flying it as long as you have enough spare propellers (grin).
