(Edwardsville, IL) Hi 72 Lo 50 – The first thing we check in the mornings is the mother Killdeer bird sitting on the nest behind us. This morning she wasn't there, and didn't come back in a timely manner so we went out to check. The four eggs were missing and not even the shells remained. It looks like the little ones took off during the night. I wish we would have seen them come out of the shells. We got attached to them and will miss them.
We left for Troy, MO about 10 this morning for a day with my mom Vena, my sister Doris, and her husband Herm. It took just over an hour to get there. We passed a lot of flooded areas along the Mississippi and Missouri rivers.
This area is farmland, NOT to suppose to have water. The trees aren’t suppose to be in water.
Buoys show the water level. It’s way above flood levels.
We went out to lunch then came back to their house for the afternoon. I went through a cedar chest we had left with Doris as part of our downsizing. We love visiting my sister, but we feel out of communication with the world because there's no Verizon signal in her area. I missed playing games and keeping up with facebook.
Doris and Herm
We had a great visit. Mom is feeling a little weaker, but otherwise she’s doing well.
We sat outside and watched Doris feed the fish in their small lake.
It was a great day and we were sad to say goodbye. We won't see them for another year. While we were there we learned that a levee broke in West Alton, MO, just north of St. Louis where the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers meet. We hate to see all the flooding along the rivers, it causes such hardships for the good people who live there. Please keep them in your prayers.
