Modern Communication

(Avon Park, FL) Hi 78 Lo 60 --  We both slept well last night. I think Jim's meds are finally kicking in.

For those that are in Florida and within driving distance of Tampa, we're having a get together on Thursday Jan 17th at the Tampa RV show. We'll meet at 11:30 at the Floating Restaurant (the hospitality tent) on the northeast side of the lake at the Tampa Fairgrounds. Many have indicated through the RV-Dreams Chatroom that they'll be there. It'll be a good way to meet up and get to know each other, and put faces to the names. I'll have name tags for everyone. We did this a couple years ago and we had a great time. See you there.

I got up to go to Shuffleboard, but both Kathleen and Judy were walking at the same hour so I went with them instead. It was progressively getting hotter so I'm glad I did the walk early. We had nothing planned except to go to the weekly Technology Group meeting. There was a representative from the company that provides wi-fi for the park. He gave a good talk about the problems they've had with the park's system, and the status of ongoing improvements. He then answered comments and complaints. Once the improvements have been made (a couple of weeks) we might sign up for the park wi-fi for a couple of days and try it out. If it meets our needs we might drop the DSL that we're now paying for. It would sure save us some money!

We had the rest of the day and evening free. I watched some of TV the shows I had recorded. One of the shows I like is the Jeff Probst show. One of the discussions on the show I watched today concerned modern dating habits, and the "new" way of communication these days. They said that in modern dating, the couple asks each other out by texting, and they continue to text during the relationship until it progresses to the level of actually calling on the phone. We both thought that was funny. It seems that no one actually talks on the phone anymore. (That's why cell phone companies now offer unlimited calling, but limited texting and data.) I love texting. It's handy, quiet, and you can get your point across in just a few words. Of course texting can't replace the joy of talking to your parents, children and grand children when you're separated by miles. But for everyday routine communication, I'll take texting any day. I guess that makes me a "with it" grandma. :)

My mom called today which was great hearing from her. She had a great doctors report and wanted to share. We had a great conversation and I was glad she called.  She's still working on puzzles and cards.  It's good to know she's doing well with my sister.

We watched TV and just relaxed the rest of the evening. Jim is coughing a lot less tonight. I'm so glad he's finally on the mend.

How fun would that be. Meeting at an RV show of all things. WOW everyone would be comparing notes all day long. Maybe we can do that next year.

I, too, am an avid texter. With four grown children in different areas, it is a good and quick way to touch base regularly. I think I spend less time texting than I would if I made a once a week call, but I stay way more in touch on a day to day basis.

Can't stand texting...don't see the point of having those tiny digits on a cell phone when email and a laptop is so simple.

Smile, I'm sitting here texting with my son while I'm reading my blogs.

The Tampa RV show sounds like so much fun - too bad I'm on the other side of the country. I don't text and rarely even talk on my cell phone any more.

Both my sons like to text me, and it is quicker for them to shoot me a text than to call sometimes :)
