Flu Epidemic in the Park

(Avon Park, FL) Hi 79 Lo 59 -- I was barely out of bed when I got a text from Judy to go walking. It's getting hot in the afternoons so I grabbed a bite to eat, had some coffee and did a one-mile lap around the park. Lots of people were washing cars and RV's this morning. I came back and did some shuffleboard practice with Jimmy. We had a friendly competition, along with trying different techniques for scoring. It's not as easy as it looks.

Our friend Jon has been working on a murder mystery play that was scheduled for tonight. His wife Kathleen  came around to tell us the play has been cancelled. Jon and his cast, all park residents, have been rehearsing for over a month. But several of the players are sick with the flu, so they decided to postpone it until this flu epidemic is over. Many other park residents have the flu, and Jim still hasn't gotten over his bout. The poor thing is getting so frustrated; it's been a week now and he's still just sick enough to make life unpleasant, mostly coughing and feeling weak. Some people told us the cough can hang around for weeks.

At lunch time we joined Judy and Jimmy for lunch at a great local place they discovered last week, Hibachi Chinese restaurant. It's a huge buffet, and the food was excellent. Jim didn't want to miss out so he went too, sick or not. (He promised to stay in and stay down the rest of the weekend.) After we were stuffed with Chinese food we went to Maxwell's Grove for some ice cream for dessert, and to stock up on some fresh orange juice. Judy and Jimmy hadn't been there yet.

Judy wanted to get a pedicure and I wanted a haircut, so we dropped the guys off at home and headed to Walmart. We skipped dinner because we were so full from lunch. I left Jim in his recliner watching football and went over to play cards.

I'm sorry to hear that Jim has the flu, but glad he seems to be on the mend. The cough from my bout with pneumonia lasted 3 weeks, so when they say 3 weeks it will probably be that long.

I hope he'll beat this illness soon, and that he won't share with you.
