Long Day on the Road

(Jacksonville, FL)  Hi 84 Lo 72 -- Everything went well for our hitch up routine this morning. We wanted to get on the road a little earlier than normal because we had a long (for us) trip of over six hours to Jacksonville. Also, we'd lose an hour due to going back to eastern time. At 8:50am (central) we pulled out of the Destin Army Recreation Area and headed for I-10. The trip was very smooth until we got near Jacksonville when we ran into some pretty hard rain storms. I-10 through the Florida panhandle is one of the nicest interstates we've been on.

A little after 4pm (eastern time) we pulled into the Pecan Park RV Resort, just off I-95 a few miles north of the I-295 beltline around Jacksonville. It's a very nice park by our standards... long concrete pull throughs, full hookups, lots of space between sites, and no trees. We normally go to the Famcamp at the Navy base, but this is more direct on I 95 to go to Myrtle Beach to have our slide checked and order the motor we need.

We mentioned to the lady in the office that a couple in the park, Karen and Al  Lueck, were RV'ing friends of ours that we met in Florida last year, and she assigned us the site right next to them. We got set up as quickly as we could as there were some pretty dark rain clouds coming our way. It rained shortly after that was done. (Click on pictures to enlarge).

Views around us, the clubhouse is to our right with the pool.

Karen and Al weren't home when we arrived. After relaxing for a while Dee made a delicious spaghetti dinner. By this time Karen and Al  were home, so while I watched the Cardinals Wild Card "play in" game Dee went next door to say hi. She was over there until well after dark when the mosquitoes starting biting. They'll be here another day so I'll see them tomorrow.

Hopefully this rain will be out of here by tomorrow. We're thinking of making it a movie day.

That looks like a very nice park, and you are next to old friends at that.
