Moved a Little South

(Abilene, KS)  Hi 84 Lo 76 --  We moved about 200 miles southwest of Omaha today to Abilene, Kansas. Jim wants to see as many of the 12 Presidential Libraries and Museums as he can while we're on the road. Abilene is the boyhood home of Dwight D. Eisenhower, and also the location of the Eisenhower Library and Museum.

Before I go on, I wanted to let everyone know that I'm going to have to start approving your comments before they post on the blog. I've been seeing more and more spam type comments, and with the automatic approval process I have trouble catching them. So if you leave a comment, be aware that it won't post until I manually approve it. Thanks to everyone who leaves comments. We enjoy reading them, and appreciate you taking the time to tell us what you think.

We had a great trip but it was very windy. Jim didn’t notice it too much, but I sure did. Since he has dual rear wheels on his truck he’s more stable so it has to be very high winds before he feels it. The terrain was moderately hilly when we started out, then by Lincoln, NE it started to flatten out a bit. I’m a country gal who grew up around farms. All the fields brought back memories of my youth.

There were plenty of hay fields too.

When we got to Kansas we passed this Pony Express Station. There are several of them around these parts, and they're all National Landmarks.

A very large grain elevator.

We arrived about 2:30 at the Covered Wagon RV Park in downtown Abilene.
Our site is a nice long pull through with 50 amp full hookups, good satellite (no trees), and a great view of the sky to watch for approaching storms.

You can see the office from our site.

After getting set up we went to La Fiesta for a Mexican dinner. It was recommended by the lady in the office, and it turned out to be a good choice.

The food was very good, including this fried ice cream dessert.

We watched TV and relaxed for the rest of the evening. We're here for two days.

Eldy is avoiding the central plains part of the U.S. He thinks it's nothing but cornfields. I keep telling him there are all kinds of things to see...I'll keep working on him!

I noticed a big difference in stability in windy conditions when I pulled a 5th wheel. I didn't have anything too bad on my recent trip though.

Enjoy the library. It should be very interesting as DDE had such a varied career.

Looking forward to hearing about DDE's library. Should be a neat time. Glad you're okay even with the wind.

You're getting some new states in. Exciting!

Too bad about the spam. I seem to get very little. Google seems to weed it out for me reasonably effectively.
Enjoy the library. That's quite an agenda of stuff to see!
