Evening of Family Time

(Joliet, IL) Hi 70  Lo 46 - It finally cooled down some. Today was beautiful with temps mostly in the high 60's. We went to the local Walmart and did some grocery shopping, then I decided to defrost the refrigerator. That's one part of full time RV'ing that's different than living in a sticks and bricks home... you have to defrost your fridge every couple of months. That is, unless you have a residential fridge in you unit, which some people do. If, I mean WHEN our Norcold gives up the ghost that's probably what we'll do. It would run on electric only, but we're never on the road for more than 5 or 6 hours, and that's not too long to be without power. And if we have to boondock for a night, we can always keep the fridge running with our generator.

Jim went on his jog/walk this morning around the huge casino parking lot. He's following a program he found on the internet to get in better shape. The program starts out in week one with him jogging one minute, then walking a minute-and-a-half, for a total of 20 minutes. He does that 3 times a week. The second week, which he's in now, he jogs a minute-and-a-half and walks two minutes for a total of 20 minutes (three times a week). The jogging part increases each week until in week 9 he can (hopefully) jog for 30 minutes straight. That's his goal. We're concerned about his knees. He ran an awful lot in the Air Force, which was a lot of pounding on his knees.  He's sore today. We'll see how it goes.

Late afternoon we headed out to Aurora, about 40 minutes away, to meet up with son Rick and grandson Jack. By lucky timing we're getting to see Jack play in his first baseball game of the season.

Grandpa and Jack

The game was a hoot! They were 5 and 6 years old, and they barely knew which base to run to. When a ball was hit, the kids either all piled on top of it and fought for it, or the ball rolled to a stop and no one went after it. It was a ball to watch, and Jack's team won 12-10.

Here's Jack sitting on the "bench" waving at Grandma and Grandpa.

After the game we went to Wendy's for an after-game snack, then we parted and we returned to Joliet. It was a fun evening.

I'd be interested to know what is the web address of the running program you are doing. Sounds to me like a sensible way of getting into good running shape.

The baseball game sounds like fun! Bryce didn't start quite that young, but I remember those early games -- what a riot!

Jill, it's called the "Couch to 5K" plan. Here's the website: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
