Visiting Last Year's Park - Tiny Visitor

(Avon Park, FL)  Hi 62 Lo 27 -- This morning's low temperature of 27 degrees broke the all-time Avon Park record for this date. Tonight won't be much better. Jim is leaving the water hose unhooked for another night. That's not a bad thing as it lets us "exercise" the water pump to make sure it works ok. We have the heat pump/furnace set to 68 degrees and we're very comfortable. We love our RV.

We both had appointments today with a dermatologist in Arcadia, which is one hour south of here. Jim saw this doctor last winter, when it was only a half hour from our park in Wauchula. I made an appointment with him this year so I could have my skin checked. Neither one of us has any skin cancer or pre-cancer to worry about thank goodness. But we do have very dry skin so we're to use a moisturizer. That's the downside for being in the Florida sun so much. At least we're getting a lot of vitamin D. We were both glad to come out without any biopsies.

On the way back home we stopped for lunch in Wauchula at a Sonic drive in. It's like the old-fashion drive-ins, but with advanced technology. You park in a space, press a button to give your order, swipe your credit card right there outside your car window, and a few minutes later a girl on roller skates brings out your food. Interesting!

While we were in the area we went by Little Charlie Creek RV Park, where we stayed last year. Surprisingly it wasn't full. We dropped in on our good friends Fred and Martha. We spent a lot of time with them last year. They were happy to see us and invited us in. We visited awhile and got caught up on all the gossip of the park. After an hour or so we bid them goodbye and came home. By then it was close to 6pm, so we decided to have pizza for dinner. There's a small mom and pop convenience store/deli just across the highway from our park. We got some sandwiches there a week or two ago, and the manager gave us a newcomer's coupon good for a free pizza. We used it tonight. Their pizza is very good, much better than your typical Pizza Hut or Dominoes. I'm sure we'll be repeat customers, so their coupon did the trick.

You might be wondering about the "tiny visitor" in the title above. Well, it seems have a cricket somewhere in our door-side slide out, and it gives us a few chirps every once in awhile. So far it's talked to us only during the day and hasn't been bothersome, but we're hoping it doesn't become a night owl and keep us awake tonight.

Here's something I got in an email, and just had to pass it along:

A clever idea!
Due to a thunderstorm, we lost power for about 5 hours. We were scrambling around in the darkness, looking for matches, candles, flashlights, etc. We looked outside, and noticed our solar lights shining brightly all around our patio, stairs, dock, etc. They were beautiful. My wife walked outside, and brought several of the solar lights inside.
We stuck the solar light pipes into plastic drink bottles containers and they made the nicest, brightest, safest, lighting you could ever imagine.
We put one in the bathroom, the kitchen, the living room, etc. There was plenty of light. There are all types of solar lights available. We bought ours at Harbor Freight. We put them all around our yard. They look nice and they do not attract flying bugs like the outdoor lights around our doorway.
The lights we have fit into the small (20 oz) water bottles and they also fit into most of the larger liter bottles. If you need a weight in the plastic bottle to keep them from tipping over, you can put a few of the pretty colorful "flat marbles" that they put in aquariums, and vases. (you can also use sand, aquarium gravel, etc., whatever you have available).
The lights we have were perfect inside our home. They burn all night long if you need them.
The next day, you just take your solar lights back outside and they will instantly recharge and be ready for you to use again any time you need them.
Perfect for power outages, hurricanes, tornadoes etc.

Just have to say..crickets are good luck :) when we lived in the big house I used to try and catch a couple (one or two) and let them loose in the family room downstairs-they aren't messy and I love their singing sure made a winter day refreshing..:)...I also (yes I"m a freak) every fall tried to capture a few ladybugs and bring them in and put them in all my plants..they would keep the plant bug free and the leaves shining..:) so don't kill the cricket :) hes luck

Wow, what a great idea on the solar lights...winter is coming and that can mean all kinds of power outages from ice on the lines. I'm going to copy and forward on to some of my e-buddies.
