(Avon Park, FL) Hi 78 Lo 54 -- It's so nice out we didn't stay in the RV very long this morning. We know there will be cold or rainy days so we try to make the best of the good days. I went down to see Elaine to see what they had planned today and we both were thinking of doing errands and getting things done in Sebring. While I was there I took a picture of their setup.
Elaine and Ricks site
Jim did his walk then went over and sat by the pool to get some sun while I visited with Elaine. I haven't walked in a few days, but I figure vigorous exercise in the pool and shuffleboard is enough.
After lunch we took off to run some errands. I've been looking for "pool noodles," those long foam rubber things that you float on. You'd think they'd be everywhere. NOT! We looked in Walmart and various dollar stores, with no luck. They tell us they're not in season. WHAT? It's warm here and we're in the pool almost daily, and they're not sold in Florida because it's winter. There was a pool supply store in Sebring that someone told us about and they had them. Now we're set to play in the pool with our noodles.
While we were out we stopped in at a Century Link office. That's the local landline phone company around here. We wanted to get some prices on DLS internet service. We're so frustrated with our Verizon 3G service. It's pretty reliable, but it's very slooooow! After getting the monthly prices for the various levels of service we left to discuss and think about it. Twenty minutes later, after a couple of errand stops, we went back to sign up. We were given a wireless modem, and on Thursday a technician will be out to connect the service at our site. Then we'll have what for us will be blazingly fast internet until we leave in April. For those interested in the technical part, we've been averaging between .5 and 1 mb/s download speeds on Verizon, and sometimes as slow as .2 mb/s. With Century Link DSL we're supposed to get 10 mb/s. That will be so awesome! We're so excited that we'll be able to make Skype calls to the kids and watch videos without waiting for them to buffer.
After dinner we went to Elaine and Rick's for an evening of card playing. I'm having trouble learning Euchre, so they're helping me with the game. For the first time I think I'm getting it.
We're supposed to have rain and thunderstorms tomorrow, so I plan to catch up on blogs. We'll see. In the meantime we're having a lot of fun in the land of sunshine. What fun!

Great idea getting DSL! It's worth it when you're parked for the winter.
Good deal on the DSL! You will be zooming along now on the Information Highway!
