Another Trip to Tampa

(Avon Park, FL)  Hi 79 Low 61 -- Another perfect day weather-wise. This morning I worked on our 2nd year recap, which I'll publish in two days. As part of that Jim's running the numbers to see how much having my car adds to our  expenses.

A little after 11am we left for the Tampa VA Hospital. Jim was started on the blood thinner Warfarin a week ago due to his atrial fibrillation (AF). As part of the therapy he has to have blood drawn once a week for an International Normalized Ratio (INR) test to monitor his body's response to the dosage of Warfarin. So we drove 80 miles to the Anticoagulant Clinic (they humorously call it the "Coumadin Clinic"). Fortunately the clinic is located about a block from the main hospital, so access and parking was much easier. It's kind of a pain to drive that far just for a blood test.  Before we left Jim filled out a request to have our mileage reimbursed, so we'll see how that works out. We checked on the possibility of having the tests done at the Sebring VA Clinic, but since that clinic is not part of the Tampa network they won't do it. Typical government beauracracy. Once the dosage is stabilized he'll only need the test once every couple of months.

On the way home we stopped at a Beall's Outlet store in Bartow. We've heard about Beall's stores, but this is the first time we've been in one. They sell clothes for really cheap, and we each bought a pair of shorts.

I cooked a meatloaf for dinner, then we settled in for our evening of TV and chatting.

Today's activities in the park: Tennis, Shuffleboard, Aquacise, Quilting Club, Light Aerobics, Golf Lessons (free), Wood Carving, Bible Study, Mah Jongg, Chorus Practice, Card Bingo

I get that test done every month and the local lab here charges me $36. Now I am sure you must be able to get some of that reimbursed but even if not 160 miles of driving and all the time involved will cost at least that much.

Dr finally took me off the blood thinners. I used to bruise so badly, especially when I first went on them. Riggs was a puppy and every time he would jump on me another ugly bruise. I used to tell Sam, you better not make me too mad, all I'd have to do is call the cops, wouldnt have to say a word just stand there in shorts...now who's going to thing a 3 month old puppy caused all those bruises :-).

Hope they get the dosage right quickly, all that going back and forth is a realy pain.
