The trip down I-95 to Ft. Lauderdale was fine most of the way. We were expecting the traffic to be a lot worse than it was, being the holiday week and all. But it was fine until we got to the West Palm Beach area. Then the traffic picked up a lot and our stress level started to rise. In some areas there was six lanes of traffic and Jim held it at 60 mph while everyone else zoomed around us.
We arrived at Paradise Island RV Park by 2:30. Jim and Chris Guld of "Geeks on Tour" live here during the winter, and my Jim had notified them that we were coming. We met Jim and Chris the first time at the RV Dreams Rally in Branson, MO in 2008. It's great to see them again. We ended up in the site right next door to them. This is a pretty park in the middle of Ft. Lauderdale, but it's very crowded. We're on the end, so that gives us some space on one side.
Jim is maneuvering down one of the roads in the park. It's pretty narrow!
Our site is a pull-thru that cuts across a corner, but we were advised to drive around the corner and back in due to the tight turn it would take to drive forward from the back of the site.
This was the challenge; there were flower pots on the left and a satellite dish on the right.
Jim managed to get the rig backed in, but there wasn't enough room up front to straighten out the truck.
Jim decided to drive around the block and try to make the turn into the site from the back, like a normal pull-thru. The turn was tight, but he did it!
Jim and Chris Guld's Gulfstream "Super C" is right next to us.
The park has well over 200 sites. The main clubhouse has some pool tables, and there is a second clubhouse on the other end of the park with an exercise room and TV lounge.
I'm thinking that on Friday, while all the Black Friday shoppers are clogging the highways, we'll stay in and I'll get in some pool time.
After a walk around the park with the Guld's, I made us dinner and we caught up with blogs, emails and watched TV. It should be a fun eight days here.
