There was a pancake breakfast at the clubhouse this morning. It was very good, and several people came over from Osprey Park, the other (long term) RV park here at Mayport.
I spent some lazy time in the RV on the computer while the day warmed up. Jim stayed in to watch the Miami Dolphins game while I walked down to the beach for the last time. It was such a great day and I'm going to miss walking on the beach. I'm hoping to walk at least a mile a day this winter. I do feel better when I walk regularly. I use an app called Runkeeper on my Droid smartphone, which calculates the distance and time of my walks.
The cacti is in bloom.
It was very quiet on the river today. This was the only ship I saw. It's a seagoing barge, and for some reason it went in and out a couple of times today.
The salt spray was bad. I'm glad we didn't wash the RV this week, it would have been covered again in salt. We'll do that when we get settled.
When I got back from my walk there was a lot of emergency vehicles around the clubhouse. It seems a woman had a medical problem of some kind and was taken to the hospital. This afternoon, Jim left to fill his truck with diesel, and moments after he left I heard a gun shot. I thought at first it was it was a blown tire, but looked out the window to see a couple of military police cars and an animal control car. A rabid raccoon was outside our neighbor's motor home. It was having fits and foaming at the mouth, so they shot it. Who says there's no excitement in RV parks? :)
I walked around the park with some neighbors and watched the dolphins before getting dinner. We watched the NASCAR race, which stretched into the evening due to a rain delay.

holy wow you've had an exciting day to say the least...safe travels tomorrow
That was an exciting day! Safe travels tomorrow.
Glad they got the raccoon but it would have been nice to have some kind of warning about the gunshot. Still waiting for the race to end so we can go to dinner.
Rabid raccoon-YEP, time to move on!
Glad I wasn't around for the rabid racoon/gunshot. I probably would have freaked :)
That raccoon was probably suffering from distemper same symptoms as you describe, very common in coons, rabies is not so common, however both have to result in the animal being put down. When I was the Chief at the Lake we had a sizeable raccoon population and this time of the year Aug-Nov was when the distemper was at it's worst. In my minds eye I can still see the USS Shangri La tied up to pier C2 in 1967. The rarely had more than one carrier in port at a time although they had room for three and two were homeported there. IN 67 it was Shangri La and Forrestal. Be safe out there Sam & Donna
