(NC State Fairgrounds, Raleigh, NC) Hi 79 Lo 48 -- I finally got to sleep till 9:30, it felt good getting up and not being in a hurry. I went to mom's apartment to pick up some of the items she wanted, and also to pick up her best friend and take her to visit mom. When we got there mom was so happy to see someone she knew, and they sat and talked all afternoon. I brought in bags of stuff and some of her crafts to sort through. She's sitting up better and can now sneeze or cough without too much pain. The new back brace has done wonders.
Mom seems happy and relaxed. We've decided to pay the extra for cable TV service in her room. She's having trouble with the soft chairs in the TV room. Harder chairs are better for her back. She did well in choosing clothes and crafts she really wants to keep and use. I'm feeling so much better that she's settling in well. She's loving the meals, and also likes the several screened-in porches around the building. We're not sure when she'll get a roommate, but she's enjoying her "private" room for now.
I took her friend back home, stopped for some groceries, and went back home to join Jim. I gave him the day off today. :) We had a nice dinner then relaxed for the rest of the evening.
I can't close out today's blog without mentioning the tragedy at the Indycar race in Las Vegas today. Jim watched it while I was out, but I got to see the replays. Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon was killed in a 15-car accident. It was the worst auto racing wreck either of us had ever seen. We're very big race fans, mostly NASCAR, but any racing injury or tragedy really saddens us. They canceled the rest of the race and all the drivers ran five laps in formation as a tribute to Wheldon. We share the grief of auto racing fans everywhere.
