A Day at Home

(NC State Fairgrounds, Raleigh, NC)  Hi 70 Lo 41 -- We had a relaxing day. I didn't get up till 10:00. Jim slept till a little before 9, which is late for him. Now we're ready for another busy week, the last one before we leave next Monday.

I had three boxes to go through from mom's apartment. A lot of it I could throw away, other things I put in a bag for mom and some things I kept. It's all sorted. A few readers gave some suggestions about how to make room for mom's crafts, including one good suggestion to put them under the bed. The problem is, until her back heals she can't bend down at all. She has a cracked vertebrae and wears a very stiff back brace. She has to keep everything waiste high. We did buy her a long-handled grabber, which works for picking up little stuff, but not boxes or craft items. For now she has her crafts on a shelf that she can reach.

I called her later this afternoon and she was in good spirits. She realizes that she won't be able to be independent any longer. At least she's now talking about it. She still wants things, but they're gone. I feel bad about it, but it's hard to get everything in her small space. We'll have the apartment completely finished and cleaned up this week. What a whirlwind!

We watched the NASCAR race from Talledaga. Although I don't care much for the kind of racing they do there, it was a good race. Only four more races till the end of the season.

This is the last day of the State Fair. We heard on the news that they may have set an all-time attendance record this year of around a million people for the week. No wonder it was hard getting around! I'm glad the fair is over, but I'll miss watching the fireworks our our window. It's been fun.
