Change of Plans

(Beckley, WV) Hi 67  Lo 56 Perfect day -- Baseball was really good last night. I don't watch the games, but Jim was so excited the Cardinals made the playoffs that he threw up his hands and yelled, and the lampshade between our recliners went flying into me. Men and their sports.  Go Cards!

Let me explain why we're all of a sudden in Beckley, WV. My 88 year old mom was admitted to the hospital yesterday morning. We waited until we got all the info before making the decision to leave Kentucky and head home to Raleigh. Mom has caregivers that help her with getting to the doctor and running errands. She also has another group that will meet her at the hospital if she's ever brought in. Everything worked out great with all the helpers. As the day progressed and several tests were taken the caregivers and the head nurse suggested we come back to North Carolina. They didn't tell us to, just a suggestion.

Mom won't be discharged from the hospital unless someone is around to take care of her. I'm glad we decided to come back to help out. She has a cracked bone in her back causing a lot of pain, and some  other age-related problems. I think she'll be fine, but I feel better knowing we'll be there to help her. Thankfully we have wheels, and as they say, plans are in jello. It's great to have the freedom to be able to come and go.

In the meantime, we're in Beckley, WV staying in a Walmart for the first time. It's not a new experience, we stayed in Cracker Barrel one night when we first got the RV. Also, this is our first night staying in West Virginia, so we get to mark off another state!

The trip was very smooth, but long. It was a little over six hours, which is a very long day for us! The scenery was beautiful. We always like traveling through Kentucky, and we can't wait to come back.

We found a Logan's Roadhouse just across the parking lot which has great food.  Jim got the $11.99 four course meal special. It includes dessert. We asked for two spoons so we could share it. This is what we got.

It's a hot fudge brownie with ice cream, and has to be the smallest dessert we've ever seen.

Good luck to you guys and your Mom. She will definitely be happier and more at east when you get there which is a good thing. I can guarantee you, if that had been Jim's dessert there would have been no sharing involved.

The Cards making the playoffs is like winning a free ticket aboard the Titanic. Now they have to play the Phillies, that's tough.

Best of luck, STL.
