Saying Goodbye -- Moved to Wisconsin Dells, WI

(Wisconsin Dells, WI) Hi 88 Lo 72 -- The humidity is high but we're doing fine staying inside with the a/c like the rest of the nation.

We said goodbye with hugs to Steve last night, since he goes to work real early in the morning.  This morning Karen and granddaughter Allegra watched our hitch-up routine, then saw us off with hugs all around.  It's always hard to pull away, but we know we'll see these two special people again. Thanks again you two for such a great relaxing time. We sure learned a lot. We pulled out at 10:30 and made our way southwest to Wisconsin Dells, a relaxing 4 1/2-hour trip.

I'd like to give a big THANK YOU to everyone who sends us advice - either by commenting on our blog or sending an email - about what to see and do in the areas we visit. It's great to hear about places that others have enjoyed.  I've always wanted to go to Wisconsin Dells since I was a kid.  My mom and dad went when I was a teen and didn't take me and my sister. It was their special vacation and they talked about it for years. In fact mom called to tell me not to miss the duck boat ride.  We also received emails and had discussions in the RV-Dreams chatroom about the House in the Rock.  We're here till Tuesday morning so we hope to check out both of those before we leave.

On our trip today Jim spotted a sign for Culver's at one of the exits on I-39. He's not normally one to pull off at an exit to eat because it's such a hassle to park our big rig. However, this was Culver's we're talking about! We haven't eaten at a Culver's since we were in Illinois last summer. So I followed him at the exit and we found a large parking lot to park Tumbleweed and we enjoyed our first tenderloin sandwich (me) and double butterburger (Jim) in almost a year. It was great! Whereever we find a Culver's we'll eat there.

We're staying in Country Roads Motorhome and RV Park. It's really nice. It's laid out in concentric circles with all pull-thru sites.

They have nightly happy hours in the pavilion, which is right across the street from us. It was too hot to sit out there tonight, but there were several people that did.  When there's special events the little snack bar is beside the pavilion.

Jim got the satellite dish up, but because of a high ridge of trees he couldn't get a good enough signal for the HD channels. So we'll have to watch standard definition this weekend, which is OK. We have two shade trees, which is nice.

Other views around us.

We had dinner in tonight and rested up the rest of the evening.  We have a lot planned the next few days. I want to see all we can while we're here.

My brother introduced me to Culver's when I drove him from Port Huron, MI to the hospital in Madison, WI. He kept hoping they would open one in Port Huron but the closest was somewhere down in Detroit. Well, I live in San Antonio, TX and we have a Culver's on the Northwest side of town. They also have one in Kerrville, TX so if you ever make it out our way...you can find Culver's here. I'll meet you there.

Baraboo is fun and not too far from you. There's a Circus Museum that we found to be lots of fun. Also Devil's Lake (I think that's what it's called) is very pretty and has some nice hiking trails. We actually didn't care much for the "Dells".....very touristy!

Keep an eye on your voltage at that park. We were there last summer during a hot spell and they had some problems. Other than that, it's a great spot.

Have fun!

You can also take a steam train ride in New Freedom Wi. Not to far. We made a trip to the Dells with Donna's Mom years ago when our son Andy was about 8 years old,I sure will be going back one day. Be safe out there, Sam & Donna.

Glad you arrived safely and all is well. I love it when folks give us ideas of what to see & do in the area that we are visiting. It is a nice idea and a great way of sharing. We have never eaten at a Culvers but after all the great reviews on them we will the next time we see one.
Have fun & Travel safe

I definitely recommend The House in the Rock. I visited while on a college debate trip MANY years ago and still remember it.

BTW, there's a Culver's just down the street from our house in Austin, TX ;-)

Being a bird nerd, I'd have to recommend the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo. It's a great cause. I stopped there on Thursday and I'll be doing a post about it tonight. :)

we were at Baraboo many years ago and if you enjoy the old time circus you enjoy the stop. If I remember right you are heading to Albert Lea, MN - if you are looking for a place to stop and see some more RVer's - Dan and Pat Sullivan (http://www.mytripjournal.com/patanddansullivan) are at Treasure Island Casino and Resort which is between Hastings and Redwing, MN. Best route would be south off 94 just before Hudson WI, down thru Ellsworth, then #10 & 63 to the west and south. Red Wind MN is very interesting too.

That's a great campground. We attended a rally there several years ago. It was nice to have all the rally participants in a circle. Enjoy your stay!
